Sun Life Financial - Keyport Life ripoff Wellesley Hills Massachusetts
When my mother -in-law passed away in december 2004, We began to process her estate holdings. She had a large sum in an Anuity with Keyport Life (part of Sun Life Financial). Upon her passing, Sun Life was obligated under Law to release the funds to us without penalty or fee as the named benificiary on the account. They instead, CHANGED the account to name the Beneficiary as the primary Account holder.
Now they want a 17% surrender fee to close the account. Keyport Customer Service will not admit any errors or wrong doing. This Company is INCOMPETANT and have mis-represented themselves as customer oriented.
They are thiefs and liars. DO NOT DEAL With them.

Well, after a round of exchanges between our legal council and Sunlife's people they finally released the funds being held. I think it was the threat of filing with the Insurance Commision that swayed their position. Done and Good riddance...
