My wife and I were in the process of buying a Suzuki XL-7. I asked the sales representative, Russell Cacace about graduate credit rebate, as most auto manufactuers give this to recent college grads, and he told me he was not sure but then asked the finance manager who said Suzuki does give a $500.00 credit. Russell then told me that I would need to verify the information necessary by providing a copy of my transcript. A few days later I did.

The day I was to go and pick up the vehicle the finance Manager, Jeff, faxed me a worksheet of the financial information for me to peruse prior to my asking my insurance company to provide them with the insurance identification card and binder. This faxed information was my stipulation which a few days before Russell Cacace had told me was not possible. He wanted me to have the insurance information sent then they would work out the financing figures. On this day however Jeff, the finance manager, told me it was no problem. Along with the finance figures, Jeff also sent me a fax which reads, "Your transcript shows a graduation date of 1999. This don't qualify for the recent grad rebate of $500.00."

I called jeff back and explained that he was looking at my first masters degree but that there was an additional thirty credits which were concluded just this month, May. He found the information on the second page.

After we received the rebate, signed the contract, paid $1,947.00 for the taxes and registration (Jeff insisted that we pay this out of pocket because "the bank won't finance the taxes")and drove home the vehicle, Jeff called the following day. At this time he informed me that Suzuki does not have a graduate rebate program. He then asked that I come back in to redo the paper work. I told him I was not going to do so because he should have known that before he sold me the vehicle. I still have not remitted any money and do not intend to do so.

I recently received a letter from the dealership stating that I owe them $500.00 and if payment is not made further action will be taken. I will fight this with the last breath, because Suzuki 112 fed me information which resulted in my purchasing the vehicle from them. Information which they are now stating was erroneous. Information which they should have known. This is their fault and I do not see myself as liable. The truth is, had the "error" been in their favor they would have said that I agreed to the information presented to me. There would have been no redress. I refuse to let them redo my paper work for fear of what it may evolve into, especially since I would then be forced to accept or forfeit my $1,947.00. Nor am I giving them a red cent more.

Graduate money Moreover, the $500 recent graduate money applies even if you elect to go with the subvened finance rate.

Mark, as much as I hate to say it, the reply from Kevin is nonsense. ASFS (American Suzuki Financial Services) has rates MUCH below bank financing. How do I know? I just financed a Grand Vitara with them (March '05) for 36 months at 1.9% with a $750 rebate. If he, or anyone else, can find a bank to loan money on a car purchase below that let me know. Moreover, the $500 recent graduate money applies even if you elect to go with the subvened finance rate. I wish you luck with your situation.

Suzuki does offer grad incentive

Suzuki does offer a $500 graduate incentive, but the catch is that you have to finance through their bank, ASFC, which charges a higher rate than other banks, so you are better off going without the rebate.

Suzuki 112 has deducted an aditional $500.00 from my wife's credit card.

Since May 20, 2003 when we took delivery of the vehicle and paid $1,947.00 for taxes and registration, out of a $2,000.00 deposit, we have not yet received our credit of $53.00. Furthermore, Suzuki 112 has deducted an aditional $500.00 from my wife's credit card. This is the same card that was used for the deposit and eventually the taxes and registration. Because we did not give them the $500.00 they requested, they went ahead and, without our authorization, deducted an adittional $500.00 to cover that which they were requesting from us. I contacted the finance manager, Jeff, whose reply was, "Mr. Pitterson that is the cash on delivery charge." I explained that there was no COD that was discussed beyond the $1,947.00 and that was already paid, plus there is no notation of any balance due on the sales receipt and that we did not authorize them to deduct this $500.00 from the card. His reply was, "The owner authorized me to deduct $500.00 COD charges. This was also done two days after we had taken delivery of the vehicle. I have informed the credit card company and reported this unauthorized transaction to the police. These people ought to be investigated and fined for their illegal activities.
