On 2/10/09 I went to www.careerbuilder.com and found an ad for a woman that had gotten a government grant and that she would show anyone how to get a grant provided you pay $1.95 to download her document. I did so and paid the $1.95 with my credit card. The $1.95 was charged by a company called NEWGRANTFORYOU. This charge was authorized and I downloaded her document. This, by the way, was worthless. I looked at the page several times to try and use it and write a grant but it was extremely confusing and obviously cut and pasted from free sources on the internet. I should have known that something was wrong at this point. I also had my husband look at it and he could not make sense of it either. (We are both college educated.) I accessed the webpage 27 times trying to use it but ended up abandoning it. I completely forgot about the transaction and useless webpage until today.

Today, March 1, 2009, I decided to check the balance on my credit card and found that the balance was in the red by -$3.09. I knew this was not correct because I always keep at least $50 or $60 on the card in case of emergencies. There was an unauthorized charge from NEWGRANTFORYOU in the amount of $58.61. dated 2/10/09. I checked her webpage, which by the way is:

http://www.thegrantresourceguide.com/login.php?access=false&redirect=index.php. and there is no reference to a recurring charge of $58.61. The web page was not www.grantaccessclub.com.

I also called the phone number which is 877-260-9455, and left a message expressing my dissatisfaction with the charge of $58.61. I also tried to submit a complaint to the webmaster of the webpage and the posts will not go through. You hit submit on the webpage and the complaint that I had written went nowhere. Just sat there. This is quite obviously a bogus webpage with no authenticity. Or the web page was set up incorrectly and you cannot submit questions either purposely or accidently.

I called the credit card customer support number and got a list of my transactions as well as a list on the credit card internet webpage to make sure that I was seeing things correctly. The charge was verified and I had credit card customer service cancel my card and they will reissue me a new one within 7 to 10 days.

I called the Grant Access Club the next day and asked for my $58.61 back and they rudely refused. They said that they are just a cancellation service for the Grant Access Club. When I asked for a phone number of the Grant Access Club, they did not have it. They stepped me through the www.grantaccessclub.com sign up page and I saw that

the monthly charge of $58.61 was hidden underneath the name and address fields and was not clear. I did not see the monthly charge obligation or I would not have signed up. This became extremely confusing as I was speaking to the representative at the grant access club cancellation center.

There must be several web pages to access. The representative at the center stated to me that "I should read things before I buy them".

This scam is taking place because people signing up do not see that there is a $58.61 charge every month when they pay their $1.95 for the download.

This ad was posted on Careerbuilder.com, a place where people are looking for jobs. The ad was placed at the very top of the Careerbuilder web page for everyone to see. Naturally, desperate people looking for work will spend $1.95 to start an at home business. But, they will not pay almost $60 per month just to keep looking at a useless web page. The web page had no way to contact the company, nor did it have links to government agencies as I would expect there to be. It was nothing but a list of government agencies and numbers of claims that must be used to make a claim. The webpage did not explain how the numbers for claims match up to your needs or what agency to apply to to match your needs.

I called the number for Grant access club again today to ask for my money back and was refused again. (1-877-260-9455)This number is long distance, by the way.

I asked what other companies they represent and I was told they represent for cancellation purposes these companies:

Grant Resource Guide and Grant Everyday.

THIS IS A SCAM....DO NOT USE THE GRANT ACCESS CLUB!

My Credit Card company called the Grant Access Club and they agreed to send me a refund check for $58.61 AND the Grant Access Club gave me back my access to their webpage Lindasbailoutblog.com. Not that I want the access back but I am assuming it was just a gesture. I am not sure how long I have access to Lindasbailoutblog.com but it doesn't matter. The webpage was useless. I am one of the lucky ones that my bank was strong enough to get the money back. Some others are not so lucky. Stay away from these companies: The Grant Access Club Grant Everyday Grant Resource Club. They all have hidden terms and conditions that contain monthly charge obligations. The supervisor at "the Grant Access Club" told me when I complained that "I should read before I buy" and "We will win, you will never get your money back" Well, if that rude supervisor that told me that is reading this, You were dead wrong. You cannot take advantage of people by hiding conditions. Also, the actual webpage that I purcased for $1.95 to load down was not the same webpage that I signed up on. I signed up on grantaccessclub.com and was given access to lindasbailoutblog. There were no terms and conditions or anything of the kind on lindasbailoutblog.com. This is how they get their money. The fool you with one page and hope you don't read Terms and Conditions and give you access to a webpage that has no reference to monthly charges or terms and conditions so you don't even know you are being charged until you get your bank statement! Please be careful before you download any documents from the internet. It usually is something that you can find for free if you search hard enough yourself on the internet.

Today is March 6th, 2009. I heard from my bank that hosts my credit card that was ripped off by Grant Access Club for $58.61. The bank called them and was somehow able to get the Grant Access Club to agree to reimburse me the $58.61 that they stole from me. I should be getting a check sometime next week for $58.61. Also, the Grant Access Club reinstated my access to the webpage. I don't know for how long I have access to it. Then bank did not know either but I tried to sign on and it works. I just don't know for how long. I did not find the webpage useful at all but it is just the principle of the situation. It was not the money I was upset about, it was the sneaky way that the terms and conditons was so well hidden. Also, the webpage I actually downloaded for $1.95 does not have any reference to a monthly charge nor does it have a terms and conditions icon. I had signed up on one web page and gotten another. The sign up web page is the one that contains the monthly charge information. So beware of these companies: The Grand Access Club Grant Everyday Grant Resource Guide If you see any of these names offering download for a couple of dollars, do not sign up! There will be a hidden charge.
