I bought a Toshiba Satellite from Best Buy in February of 2013. I also bought a 1 year all inclusive Geek Squad Protection Plan. In May of 2013 the laptop malfunctioned, so I brought it to geek Squad, who sent it out to fix.

At the end of May, 2013 I am notified that fixing the computer would cost more than the computer was worth, and to go back to my local store and pick out a new machine of the same model.

I get out to the store and, lo and behold, they do not have any left of my model, but there is a newer model avilable, but they have to order the machine. I am then informed that, because the older model is no longer available, i would need to purchase another $300 Plan in order to cover this new machine.

Needless to say, I did not have that kind of money available so declined.

Fast forward to August of 2013. After having nothing but trouble with newer replacement laptop, of course, this one fails. Of course, because I chose not to purchase the $300 plan, Best Buy will not touch the thing. OK, fine, others in my household have gone through manufacturers before, this time was my turn.

After a lengthy phone conversation with someone who, no offence intended, did not have English as their first language, I was told to send the machine, which now will not even turn on, to their Repair Depot in California, at my expense.

After paying Toshiba $29.99, I was sent a box and sent my machine off on its journey.

A few days later I am informed that my laptop has WATER DAMAGE, and that since water is not covered in their apparently very limited warranty, I would need to send them $750 to fix a computer that, brand new is worth only $599.

I called the phone number I was provided with in the estimate, only to talk to yet another person who had trouble understanding my words. I explained multiple times that water had never been anywhere near my machine.

The next thing I hear from Toshiba is.... nothing! The next thing I know, a UPS truck shows up, while I'm at work, with a box from Toshiba. Yes, my laptop, now with an obviously broken keyboard in addition to not being fixed at all.

I decided to give Toshiba another chance to fix my machine. Made yet another call, spoke to yet another non-english speaker. Same song and dance, send your laptop in to our Repair Depot. I explained that I had been through this already and that $29.99 going out of my pocket, yet again, just wasn't something i wanted to do. After 10 minutes on hold a manager finally gave the OK for a one time only free box.

I, yet again, sent in my machine. They, yet again, sent me an estimate to fix the "WATER DAMAGE". Only this time the estimate now includes the keyboard. This time they want... $769.03

This is ridiculous, I have explained over and over and over that NO water has EVER come into contact with that machine. I am at a loss as to what to do, so I came here in hopes that someone will see this report and avoid all this trouble.

My Toshiba Satellite is just a year old and the usb ports are shot as well as the dvd/cd player.  Keys have fallen off the laptop and cannot print unless I change out the mouse to print.  I will never buy a Toshiba again but I do have an extended warranty - yet this does not help if sending it off without a backup.  I hear ya
