In may we were contacted by a collection agency about my daughters Hospital bill. we disputed the bill and sent along with our letter court orders saying that her father was responsible for half of her unpaid medical bills. We had already paid our half of the hospital bill. several months went by and we assumed the collection agency had contacted my daughter father for the payment, as we heard nothing back. Monday we recieved a call for the collection agency demanding payment, they told us they don't follow court orders and wanted the $2,000.00 that day or they would have to put a judgement out on me and take legal action immedietly. They scared the hell out of me by everything they had said. I was forced to pull the money off my credit card and deposit it into our checking account. They gave me 3 days for the transfer to be made. They called today demanding the debit card account number for the bank so they could withdrawl the money. surprise we don't have a debit card. He was irritated with me and said he would call back when he talked to someone and figure out what we can do to get the money to them. He would not accept a check as they wanted the money today.

I got fed up with him scaring me and making me panic. I called the hospital talked to the business office and made arrangements to pay what I owe to the hospital on monday. That way I can get a receipt and take my ex husband back to court for not following court order. UCB had told me I cant pay it to the hospital The hospital said I could too bad UCB won't get there commission off me. They use terrible scare tactics and almost drove me to a nervous breakdown over being sued.

As the company already told you they do not get into any domectic issues. You are the mother correct. Your daughter had the sercives, rather you have a court order or not you as a mother have a moral duty to do what is right to get that bill paid. Yes I do understand that the father did not pay his portion of the bill. Take him back to court and get them to make him pay you back. The account is in your name the child I assume is a minor correct. As they already told you that this is your credit not theirs and regardless depending on the client (the hospital) they still have to update the information to the collection company (ucb). Depending on the hospital they do have the option to sue you or not. They hav ehte option to listen to the recorded converstions when they call you. No body is perfect. Most likey you said some things too. Yes the hospital may take your payment but ucb will still get paid.

The standard drivel from a lowlife debt collector! "Pay your bills" is the response every time from these morons. Someone has been over indulging in the UCB koolaid. >> pay your bills i work for ucb and i love my job. i know sometimes collectors can sometimes be rude but i personally dont break any laws. i do my job as i have been trained to do. i have to make a living as well as anyone else in the work force today.if dbtrs would adhere to the fact that they have bills that have been neglected and are more willing to pay them and quit ignoring and disregarding our attempts to help them rresolve these issues, we wouldnt be classified as scams or rip offs. just think, when you got the line of credit, or credit card, loan or financing for that vehicle, were you ripping these companies off? looks that way when you sign contracts for these items and then you dont pay!! most of the time, large balances are results of non payment over a period of time. theres interest and penalties. pay your bills on time and you wont end up in colection agencies. if there is a hardship situation and you cant pay off bills in a timely manner, dont ignore us. we r here to help. things happen sometime beyond our control and of course we cant help it, but ignoring your past due bills look like rip offs to us collectors! signed, a well trained collector. pay your bills! >>

Don's right on the money

Don is exactly right. The divorce order set established the rights between you and your ex-husband. It did not affect the rights of your creditors. What you have is a right of indemnification against your ex. What this means is that, if you are liable to the hospital, your ex is liable to you. If you paid the hospital bill, your husband is now legally obligated to reimburse you. You can easily get a court order to that effect if he won't pay up. File an update if you need some help with that. Best regards!

If the hospital bill is in your name, a collection agency can not change who owes on the balance, regardless of the divorce agreement. You are doing the right thing in now going after your ex-husband for the balance. As for the collector not getting the commission, you are right the individual did not get the commission. CHances are though, the collection agency still go credit. Regardless of whether you paid the agency or not, the actions of the collector got the account paid.

Too add more to my above report, I forgot to mention that while I was on the phone with my credit card company to have the money transfered to my Checking account The man at ucb was on the phone listening to my conversation with Bank of America. I was too scared and panicked at the time to realize with him on the line He just heard my checking account information and routing number. They (he and his manager a Mrs whomever) spoke to my husband also. They were very rude to him. My husband had tried to explain that the childrens father was legally responsible to pay the bill, they didnt want to hear it, and tried to hurt my husband (childrens step-father) by saying he was a bad father. My husband isnt the childrens father but has raised my kids for the past 5 years like his own and has done more for them then there own father has. He was very hurt by what UCB said to him. We were also told that we could not seek a laywer ourselves what God given right do they have to tell people what they do.
