Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Been with Verizon since they bought out Airtouch, about six years. Called Verizon to sign up for a new deal around Xmas. Deal was 600 minutes, unlimited nights/weekends, free long distance, etc.... The real catch, a new phone with a $100 savings on a Motorola T720. So I ordered a new phone as well. What the hell. Got the phone, and per instructions, sent old phone back within ten days using the return label provided, so I could still be eligible for my $100 savings. I thought that the deal was to be credited to my bill. So when I recieved the first bill, there was no credit, full price for the phone.

So I call and find out that it is actually a rebate and I should be recieving this within 4-6 weeks. Ok, so I wait six weeks, and call the rebate center, as instructed, to check on the status of the rebate. By the way, Young America, according to Verizon CSRs, is where I need to call for the rebate information, whom they say are not affiliated with them, yet still answer the phone as Verizon.

Anyways, my information has not been recieved. Told to wait 6-8 weeks and call back. Screw that. I believe a month and a half is more than enough time to process, or at least get into the system. So I call Verizon CS to inquire. Some really (fake) nice guy says he'll help. Calls Young America to ask the same question I already know the answer to, because this is just too long, he states. He gets the same answer I do, big surprise, yet says he'll call me back within a week to see if I have heard anything, and if not, he'll credit the $100 to my account. Whatever.

A week passes, don't hear anything, so I call Verizon again. Get Gayle (if that's her real name) and she tries to help. Calls Young America, get's the same run around, then tells me it will take 8-12 weeks. What the Hell!! So I ask why every time I call I get a different answer, she has no clue. Does anybody there? So, blah blah, I have to call her back within a week to check. Why should I call her? So I call Young America myself to see what the problem is. Apparently, I have to track my Fed Ex shipment to see what happened. They want to know when it was recieved and what address I sent it to. Now I did save copies of this information, but at that time, I did not have them. So I say I will try to find this information.

Luckily, I found it and looked up the shipment. Sure enough, it was recieved on 1/3/03, the day after I shipped it. To Verizon Wireless Returns in Memphis, TN.

So I call Verizon CS again to let them know about this vital piece of information, and this new guy is so great to help. He calls Young America (Verizon in disguise) and then he connects me to them, and hangs up. The nerve! This other guy at Young America is so rude, saying it's my fault that I didn't address it properly, and it was supposed to go to a PO box. Since when does FedEx ship to PO boxes?? Plus, I used the return label provided and as instructed.

By that time, this piece of crap phone I bought, and am still awaiting the $100 rebate on, now doesn't work. This phone only lasted me two months and I'm paying $192 for it? So I call Verizon CS again, and say I want to cancel. What's the reason? You won't give me my rebate as agreed to, you give me the run around every time I call, and this brand new $192 phone will not work anymore. So the CSR states that they can replace it, free of charge. No thanks. I may never see that phone. Ah, but, there is a $175 dollar early termination fee. I said just credit the $100 rebate you are so taking your time with to my account and we'll call it even. Nope, can't do. Because, Verizon and Young America are not affiliated, my a*s. Whatever, send me a final bill and disconnect. Also, you can shove this phone where the sun don't shine.

Frankly, I don't think I will ever see my rebate. But I will keep calling every week to check on the status, Young America and Verizon! They have not heard the last of me yet.

P.S. I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon tacks on more charges or misc fees, such as charging mer $25 for the 911 Surcharge. Thanks for listening to my ranting. If anyone has had, or is having similar problems, I would like to hear about them. Rebut or update. :))

I was a superviosr for the verizon wireless team at the young america call centre, yes, i worked with Dan(from previous comment). First off, i would like to say, that i have never ever seen so many examples of people just being retarded and not following instructions. It is not the call centre rep's fault that you didnt get your rebate,if you would have read the instructions properly(which was 95%of most customers problems) things would have went through smoothly for you sir! Infact, you were probally yelling and screaming at me on the phone as I only took irate callers for superviory level calls !I ended up leaving my job cause I couldnt handle the stress! I learned 2 very improtant lessons working for young america: #1 never ever mail in for a rebate unless you have photoco[pies of everything(UPC BARCODE) and #2 americans are stupid

Sorry to hear about all your problems, As an employee at Young America, I work for client Verzion Wireless as a Call Centre rep. So of course I get the priviledge of dealing with many people like yourself who have had problems with their rebate. As the people before have stated, Young America is a separate company that specializes in rebate fullfillment. So basically Verizon pays us a lump sum to take care of the rebates, so whether or not we are "employees" of Verizon is entirely up to you. Keep in mind though, We DO NOT have access to any of your billing information, all we have is access to what rebate submissions we receive from you. I'd like to make some suggestions to those of you that are submitting rebates in the future to help ensure that you receive them. First of all... the most important thing of all... DO NOT THROW OUT ANYTHING INCLUDING THE BOX!!! As soon as that box is carted away, so is your rebate as the original UPC bar code is now lost. To clarify immediately, without the UPC code there is absolutely nothing that YA can do to get you your rebate, nothing at all, if you dont have it... too bad, plain and simple. Now, make sure that you READ everything in the rebate certificate(rc) and make sure you are satisfied with the phone... hence why VZW gives the 15 day worry free guarantee. Once you are sure you are happy, then follow all the directions on the RC. Which means make sure you cut the VALID UPC from the box. Not just the side of the box you see a couple of barcodes. Ensure that the certificate is filled out entirely. And finally enclose your Cash register receipt (or in some cases the order confirmation) once you have all of this together. MAKE COPIES INCLUDING THE UPC! I cant stress this enough, as long as you have copies you are covered. Plain and simple. Ok so now you've submitted it, and yes it does take approx. 4-6 (6-8 sometimes depending on the season) to show up in our computer as some of you fail to understand, you arent the only rebate we process, we receive well over 6000 per day. hence why it states 10-12 weeks. so after 6 weeks call to verify that it has been received, if it has and there is no problem then you are all set otherwise if there isnt a record you can resub at that time to another address for these sort of situations or we also have a FAX line as well. Again call in about 4-6 weeks to get a ship date. Now your check has been shipped... PLEASE! allow the 30 days to receive it... We send out our checks in Standard Bulk mail (saves VZW and YA lots of money) so it does take usually between 10-20 days to get to you. if you dont receive it after 30 days then call to put a stop payment. YA cant stop payment until the 30 days has elasped In this poor persons case, they DID NOT properly read the RC as it clearly says the address on it PO BOX XXXX Young America MN and it takes 10-12 weeks to process. Instead, they used a fedex stamp that is put in there for the NEW phone if they wanted to return it. So as I explained earlier about YA not actually part of Verizon, this rebate submission gets sent to Verizon returns at which point who knows whats going to happen to it. For all YA knows it gets thrown in the garbage, we attempted to have them forwarded to us with little success, so if anyone else has had a similar sitaution then you could be out of luck for the rebate. In some cases VZW CS will credit your account, but as Im YA I cant make any such promises that you will get satisfaction. I'll wrap this up quickly: Please people, READ the instructions, if you have any questions whatsoever CALL US thats what we are there for, not to lie to you, to cheat you, to steal from you... but to HELP you get your rebate anyway we can.

Consumer Info on Mail-In Rebates Verizon \ Motorola T-720

#4Consumer Suggestion

Tue, May 13, 2003

Leslie, I am a Verizon agent in Des Moines. The rebates offered during the time frame that you got you phone very clearly state that it's a MAIL-IN REBATE and takes 10 to 12 weeks to be mailed out to you. If you filled out the rebate and even skimmed reading it instead of reading it in detail, you would ahve found teh answers to most of your questions. The Motorola T-720 phone came with a Pre-Paid envelope in which you should not have had to pay any postage.
