A few days ago Capital One offered me a balance transfer offer which would raise my credit limit by the amount of the transfer, I did it and should be transferring $2000.00 in other consumer debt to them. Three days later I get a call at work from a guy telling me he is from Viking Collections and I owe Capital One $2000.00, rite now.

First off, the balances haven't even been transferred yet, second off, how could I get into collections in only 2 days?

I have a low tolerance for debt collector vermin and I started swearing at him the second he said the words "collections agency", it went downhill from there. He wanted my information and I told him he obviously had it or why would he be calling.

After shutting my office door and screaming at this idiot con man for a few minutes I slammed down the phone. I called Capital One and was told my account was in good standing. I called Viking Collections and they didn't have my name in their database.

Next I called the Capital One "Consumer Fraud Department" at 1-804-290-8550 and spoke with a lady there. She told me there was no record of any of this! I gave her all the details and told her it seemed very suspicious that I would get a call like this 3 days after doing that increase over the phone. I also said that it sounded like they have an information leak and this is probably a scam.

Bottom line, check your credit regularly, try to stay current on all consumer debt, and if you know you don't owe something and a collection agency calls you... start swearing at them from the start! The conversation is going to go bad no matter how you handle it, so start off rude and on the offensive. Screw them, they knew what kind of a job it was when they took it.

If you get a call from Viking make sure you check with your credit card issuer before you say anything at all to them. In my opinion, it could be a scam.
