Back in the year 2000 Viking Dodge nearly did the same thing to my husband and I. I was five months pregnant with our first child and we wanted a minivan. Most important part of that sentence is wanted, not needed, something the Viking salesmen were not privy to. We had exactly $20 on us to last the rest of the week (the good old days), and the car salesman said that we had to put down earnest money. Not 'it is wise to do so,' or 'this may go a long way in getting you financing,' it was we HAD to put down earnest money. The salesman took our twenty-dollar bill and stapled it to our application. We then test drove the van, it was OK, but too many miles for the price, and the package was not the same as was listed on the Internet. I was NOT comfortable with the situation at all, and I wanted to leave. My husband on the other hand wanted to see what they could do for us. It took us five hours to get our $20 back, which I ended up snatching off of our application and ripping it, storming out of the doors. Three salesmen literally followed my husband to our car telling him what they could do for him. Not a one of them looked at me or acknowledged my presence. I do not remember how many times I had to tell my husband to go, just go. Having dealt with Viking Dodge I can understand your discomfort, and felt they had you by the short hairs, but they did not, UNLESS they had the title to your automobile, and you had signed it. Otherwise, what they did was illegal. I also understand there is not much you can do now; it is over and done with. However, having posted it here for others to see, and for others to know you are not the only one they've tried this with will go a long way in making people wise, not just to Viking Dodge but ALL car salesmen. The end of the story? We, this past September of 2006, purchased a minivan - after having two children, two dogs, and two cats - at CarMax - which I HIGHLY recommend. However, I'm sure there are some that have had bad experiences there, too. I personally have purchased 5 vehicles in my life and CarMax was least painful. Sometimes a good thing is worth waiting for :) Hope my experience puts you at ease that you did nothing wrong. You were naive and they counted on that. You are naive no more.

Viking Dodge will remain in business a very long time, it appears, because you probably did what many other people have done, you "ended up taking the truck with kind of high financing..." So has your question been answered? "...and left wondering how long they were going to remain in business hopefully im getting my answer now!" Yup- you did get your answer, didn't you???? How is this for a suggestion? Next time, YOU call the police and YOU let the police retrieve your vehicle for you- it still belonged to you, didn't it?... "He who sells what isn't hisin, must give it back or go to prison".
