We started using walmart connect and were happy with it until our computer went down. After getting a new computer about three weeks later, we found out that we were cancelled. My wife called about six times before getting a hold of anybody that knew what they were talking about. We made arrangements for wallmart to take the money out of our account every month wich they had done. they told us that we called and disputed our bill which we never had done. They even read back the wrong checking account number. Well i thought that it was just a mistake so i let it go until i asked when they were going to turn our service back on. They told me that it would cost me a $ 29.95 charge to turn it back on. I bet i sat on the phone with them for an hour telling them that it was the wrong checking account, but they acted like they didn't know what i meant. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! it was then that i asked where they were located. they told me they were in INDIA!!!!! now, i really think that America is having enough trouble right now creating jobs for our citizens and this huge franchise wants to take their jobs to INDIA? After finding that out i cancelled. As for karly, I thought that took some guts complaining about her ordeal, and America needs more people like her to stand up for the common man. as for cliff, i dont know if sam walton is his uncle but that was totally uncalled for. If he wants to talk about what people have forgotten in grammer school, he should try to remember what his parents tried teaching him before he was even in school,MANNERS!!!

Well Karly On defense to your comment I had walmart connect off and on for 2-3 yrs VERY satisfied.... Each time i wanted to disconnect my service I clicked on the appropriate link and called walmart Here is a what I found easily on your website on how to cancel I cut and paste so those who had a hard time to get their service cancelled can see for themselves that it simply states to CALL ...NOT EMAIL... CALL How do I cancel Connect service? Simply call our toll-free number, 1-888-855-0942, and select Option 5: Cancel Account. A customer service representative will take your call and cancel your account. after speaking to MAX (csr) he simply cancelled my account no pressure to stay with them... I told him I went to broadband service and thats why I cancelled ...he even suggested a way for me to continue using walmart with my highspeed service ... Tried it didnt see a need for it any longer called back wham bammm it was done no hassels ... If i have to go back to dialup its gonna be walmart AOL NEVER... besides it can damage your system

Hi all,,, I know there has been a lot of discussion about WalMart and what they did and what they did not do,,,and I am not commenting on that. I did see the comment about the person's bank not doing anything, and them saying what a crock of excrement. Well, legally, the bank has no say in how you use your debit card, as well as who you give authorization to. A lot of people think they can go out, use their debit card like a credit card, and then just place a stop payment like they would do for a check. Well, the authorization, which GUARANTEES the merchant the money, does not work like a check clearing, no matter how alike it looks to you in your statement. I have been on the receiving end of quite a few angry vindictives because the financial institution I worked for could not "stop" the funds from being withdrawn. Banks have to wait until the item has cleared, and then the customer could file a dispute, just like a credit card. This is an agreement with them and the card issuers, which is always Visa or MasterCard. THERE IS NO WAY AROUND THIS, unless your bank is willing to take a chance on a loss, which they will not usually do. Before a lot of you write me to tell me how wrong I am, I am not speaking of ACH withdrawals, which is where you give your checking account information and authorize a monthly amount. That is a different set of rules, including the ability to stop payment before the item comes through. I am talking about when you use your card like a Visa, and give the card number and exp date. The main reason I am writing this is in defense of the bank personnel and not the banks themselves. I have heard customers yell, threaten, push their fingers into our chests, as well as other mean, hurtful things to my tellers because of this. One guy told one of my tellers that if she didn't take the hold off (debit cards put holds on accounts before withdrawing), he would be waiting for her out in the parking lot. We had to call the cops on that one. Again, we do not make up these rules, and if it were left up to me, I would give you back your money right there. We understand where you are coming from, but our hands are tied. I cannot condone the tellers and bank personnel who pile bad or mean service on top of this, but that is rare. Ok, now I am getting off my soapbox....

If you want to contact W/M all you have to remember is 1-800. And WalMart. Put this all together and it will get you to the big Wal-Mart in the sky, and you do not even have to pay for it.. From this starting point you will be able to get any information you may need to get you started with almost any thing "Wal-Mart". I have used it a bunch of times to ask questions about good things and bad. I have always been given an answer or I have been called back by someone that could. You may not always get the answer you want, but you will get one. This company is easy to contact. When I read about people bitching about "trying" to contact, waiting eight months etc to get a problem solved I wonder just how smart and just how hard they try. When all else fails, pay attention and follow directions. Sometimes this works.

i have the same problem going on but i called the local walmart in my town and got their internet customer service number and i got a person on the phone. this was the second time i called them to cancell my service and they still charged me for service that i hadn't used in a month. all i can tell you karly is to keep calling customer service and get on them. but a likely chance of you getting your money back is unlikely because you never called to disconnect the service. if you would have looked up in their help menu of your serivce's homepage you would have gotten their number to call. as far the man that wanted to slam you in his letter is wrong. there are no phone numbers listed the bank statements because i have searched my bank statements for the last year and no there isn't any phone number on them. i had to call walmart themselves to get the number for me to call.

ok it's one thing to complain about something legitimate. Maybe wal-mart does have problems with their customer service, because it sucks. But in your case, it's YOUR fault. You didn't call the number or write a letter..you simply emailed them which evidently was not a way of cancelling your account. It's your responsibility to know how to cancel, not wal-mart's responsibility that you were too lazy to figure out how to cancel, and chose your own method. You can't expect a company to just refund your money if it's something that you screwed up on. Evidently many other people can easily find the number on the website and even if you couldn't you could have called the customer service number to ask them about it. I'm all for customer's rights, but in this case, it's not wal-mart's fault that you didn't cancel your account the right way, it's yours. If they decide not to refund your money, so be it, but the blame is put on the customer who didn't take the time to figure out the correct way of cancelling the account. In other words, your problem was that you weren't conveniently 'handed' a number to call, so you began to blame it on wal-mart for not giving you the number or putting it on your bank statement..this is NOT wal-mart's fault, it's yours..

I believe men and women should solve their own problems too, and that's what I did. I'm glad you didn't have a problem with Walmart Connect, but other people have. So stay out of our way so we can solve our problems! The people on Rip Off Report are able to state their issues with a company or "b***h and whine" as you call it, in hopes of preventing another customer from having the same problems, and warning them of businesses that are not providing good products or serices. AND YES I HAVE ACHIEVED THAT. I filed my report, then I made the Business Buearu aware of the issue, and WALMART responded to me and APOLOGIZED as well as refunded 50% of the money that was in question. If you don't speak up and warn others, some companies will take advantage of customers. Rip Off Report gives a voice to us "whiners", or rather people who aren't willing to sit back and get RIPPED OFF!

I agree with Karly!! Wal-Mart Connect provides poor internet service and customer service. I called last week to cancel my service because we are constantly being disconnected. We only have 1 dial up # available in our area. I'm sure the disconnect is partially due to the dial up. But when I contacted them to cancel, I had to go round and round with the guy to get my service cancelled. He kept on and on about me using the service throughout the remainder of the month and calling back in and cancelling at a later time. And of course gave me phone #'s to call to help me with the problems I'm having. Finally after 30 minutes of repeated conversation with him on trying to cancel my service, I had to get very firm with him because basically, he would not listen to me. Then he assured me if I was billed again, which I was, they would reimburse me....which they refuse to do. So, it looks like I'm going to be out the funds of a stop payment or the hassel of closing my checking account. To put things simple, cancelling is a hassel with Wal-Mart Connect and their customer service is certainly lacking also.

I was able to cancel my Walmart connect with a little problem. The one key thing is to just 'be firm.' If they insist on giving free months or if you've already been billed and they say 'well, might as well use the rest of the month' just say 'no thanks, please cancel.' If that is the only thing you say, they have little choice. Also, give THEM little option to discuss. I said that it was my brother's computer, and he was moving out to college, so we had NO use for it (I lied). The rep had NOTHING to offer. I came to this site to see what others had to say, and I too was unhappy with the ISP. It was slow, and kept disconnecting and shutting down. However, to Walmart's defense, these issues could have easily been the fault of my computer and/or phone lines. I called the number listed above, and I got a hold of someone in 5 minutes (9:45 AM on a Wednesday). Yes, he did have an Indian accent, but he was not difficult to understand, I only had to ask him to repeat himself once. He was also very polite. Since I had already been billed for the month, he did insist I keep the service until my next billing date, but I simply said "No thanks," just a couple of times and eventually he cancelled. He gave me a confirmation number and said I will be mailed a confirmation letter in a few days. So, I will wait to see what happens. I am confident it worked fine. On a side note, I have worked in an inbound call center environment and I have seen, first hand, the difference between various reps. While I knew what I was doing and I was nice, the guy across from me in the next cubicle was just attrocious. Tip: if you dont like who you're talking to, hang up and try again, you might be surprised. I hope this review has been helpful.

Well, I just recently moved and got online to get info on how to cancel my WMCONNECT service. This happened to be the first website that came up in my search. I saw the toll free number in some of your comments and dialed it. Within about 5 minutes, I was connected with a representative who was very courteous. She asked for my comments on why I was cancelling the service, but quickly took care of cancelling my service and told me when the cutoff date would be. I called close to 6pm central time. Maybe the time of day makes a difference for how quickly you are able to get your cancellation request processed.

Making a contract with any business requires that you read and understand the contract. I have read Wal-Mart's TOS and found the telephone number to cancel with no problem.
In today's world you should use a credit card for most purchases as you can always contest a charge and instruct the card sponsor not to accept further charges.
To avoid dealing with phone trees and rude employees learn to type a simple letter of cancellation. Never, Never, rely on a phone call to cancel anything. Always back it up with a written demand for cancellation and always keep a signed hard copy of your request.

Hi,
I posted about Juno doing this same thing to me and I was Blessed to find a easy resolution.
I looked at the company information I found who was in charge of the press the company etc I then took those emails and sent an email to each one Not the one email to All but wrote to each and let them know that i had cancelled my account and that records if they would look shows I was not using the service I also went on to let them know that they had No right removing funds as according to their agreement Once i cancelled that at that time that meant they no longer had approval to deduct money from my account which meant they removed funds illegally from my account and that while I am only a small consumer and they a giant company that gave them NO right to do such things.,
i went on to let them know that the customer Service was Horrible rude nasty etc. i said it in a nice way though and left them know that hey I know they have a large company and can not be everywhere at once and that is why i was taking the time to share not only MY thoughts and experiences but links to others with the same issues
at which time I included links to each complaint i found here at Rip Off report and let me say it was a LIST
Anyway the next day i checked my account and my fiends were back in my account later that week I got a written letter of apology and a Thank you for drawing the problems to their attention
That was Juno BUT^ Maybe the same can happen if someone takes a step and emails or ALL of you take the step and email the people at Wal-Mart Include the MANY rip off reports either copy the posts or links Send it to them ask for your account to be cancelled and your funds returned and or not touched again.
Worth a try I was Blessed with results i am sure it would be helpful to you all as well and Who knows MAYBE they will actually change their ways LOL yea i know that is reaching but Hey you can hope can't you :0)
Sometimes and I am not defending but sometimes I think a lot of the larger companies have little idea what the heck is happening through out the company They really are not aware the way things are being ran downstairs so to speak. Many really could care less as long as that bottom line keeps getting better but well some do care as they KNOW that if they get enough complaining folks who are NOT happy with the service well they lose and that bottom line number they watch will start to go down and not up which is NOT what they really want
It may take some research to find the emails for those folks that need to be emailed maybe marketing and public relations and of course President or vice president
BUT It Just may help
here is the first link to get you started

go from there use google and do searches i am Sure just like i managed to find Juno info and get some satisfaction that MAYBE Wal-Mart will care as well

My awful experience with Walmart is similar to the others. They make it just about impossible to cancel. I tried them for 30 days and decided to go with high speed service instead. Having read that cancelling is difficult I decided to cancel 5 days before the 30 days expired.
The person I spoke with was really nasty. They already billed my credit card and she said that I should just use it for the next month and try it out. That is not what I wanted but NO was not an acceptable answer. After an argument I told them that I would simply refuse to pay the credit card bill. These are the NASTIEST, RUDEST customer service reps I ever spoke with.
I will never use Walmart and never recommend it to anyone. Just the opposite I would tell people to avoid this provider.

You shouldnt bash Karly ((uh-hmm)) Cliff, it is true that Walmart Connect is a Rip Off! they have been charging my brother for a service he had disconnected 4 months ago, they even sent a verification of termination on the account but still continue to take the $9.95 out of his account. I told him to close his account so they cannot bill him any more, he also said he asked the bank to stop paying them but they said that they couldnt do that (what a crock of sh**)so my mom called to cancel her account also and to see if she could resove the issue and she said she got a representative from India that was trying to out talk her until she finally cussed him out and told him to cancel both of the, but who knows that probably wont happen since it doesnt seem to be happening for anyone else! I am glad i never bothered with them, they are the worst dial up servers i have ever heard of---the slowest and hardest to connect to! not to mention their service sucks. I also believe that there are Americans over here that needs jobs more than the asses in India and we should take care of ours before someone elses.

I am on WMConnect ISP Service, but I am not necessarily happy with them either. I have problems every afternoon with staying online. If I call I get people in India, whom are not the least bit informed about computer graphics and some can hardly understand the english language. I am only using this ISP because I thought that AOL was entirely too expensive and I use my computer for business, so I am online for hours at a time.
I am thinking very seriously about going back to AOL or finding another ISP because I am not happy with the fact that Wal-Mart is an American based company and advertises that they support the USA. If this was entirely true then they should have put Americans to work in there ISP business instead of Asian Indians.
If everyone quit buying at Wal-Mart for 1 week they would be broke!!
Stand with me and lets take care of Americans at Home in the USA and stop letting the rest of the world profit from our financial freedoms!!!

Last month, I unfortunately had my cable disconnected, and needing internet access, I remembered seeing cd's in Walmart. So I went through the whole process, and immediately recognized the access #s to be the same as aol, compuserve, and others. I went ahead and used it for 3 days, and then forgot to cancel within the 30 day time frame (my fault). My wife informed me that we had been charged the fee a few days later. Today, I found the WC # online and I called it. Within about 3 minutes, after verifying my account information, Adam had helped me to cancel my account. He was courteous and helpful, and provided me with a confirmation #. The time I called might be helpful to any who are having trouble getting in. I live in New Hampshire and I called at 8:00 p.m. Just be polite, honest, and usually your effort will be reciprocated.
I do want to express my concern at the earlier comments by Cliff. Cliff, please remember, in a successful business, the customer is always right. It's not easy, trust me I know, however you will live longer if you just go with the flow.

I agree with Jennifer from Kingsley, Michigan. And Cliff definitely should not work in any customer service field.
I had a similar problem with AOL. I signed up for service with another internet service provider after being with AOL for five years. I wanted to see who offered the best service. I contacted AOL to cancel.
As most ISPs, AOl offered something different to keep me as a customer. The rep said she would set me up with a service that only charged me for usage. I didn't understand that at first. I thought that I was just getting a lower rate. Some reps talk so fast you miss important information. (It's sometimes strategy - like the small print underneath a TV commercial.) And you don't always know the right questions to ask and you don't know to have them repeat something if you didn't know you missed it to begin with. So when I got my extremely high bill, I was furious. I called them and I was polite.
But unlike the first rep, this rep was rude and told me that I should have read this and known that. So I hung up on that one thinking I could get a better one. Well, they note your account with whatever they want if the conversations not being recorded. So the second rep was just as rude as the first. Regardless, that is bad business. So much pops up on our internet screen many of us don't read it all.
Sometimes we assume it's another popup and continue on.
But after years of experience, I ask more questions. When you begin your ISP search think about what you want in your service. Ask lots of questions. Shop around. Sleep on it over night and go back to your notes for review to see what companies offer what you want. When you choose a company ask them for their cancellation address and phone number and their customer support phone number. Some companies have different contact numbers for these issues.
Write the address and these phone numbers down in your telephone book just like you would a friend's. If you use your checking account to pay for service and decide to cancel service, write your ISP and send the letter certified mail with a return receipt.
Keep that receipt for future purpose. If you find that they have not canceled your service as requested take that certified letter receipt with letter to your bank. Inform them that you followed company policy. And if your bank is uncooperative - Get A New Bank.
A business is as good as its employees. People shouldn't be expected to be perfect but professional. Consumers are not the only ones that make mistakes. Businesses make mistakes too because they are ran by people. Human error exists in all of us.

That's right. Wal-Mart Connect is made in the same format as CompuServe (if you've ever used CompuServe, you would immediately notice the resemblance), and they both are all handled by the one and only America Online. Everyone knows the customer service reputation of America Online, so what would you expect?
Next time you have any of those services, and you want to discontinue the service, they all follow the same pattern. And they all state that you must call to cancel or submit you request IN WRITING (that does NOT include e-mail). WM Connect's customer service is just as aggresive as AOL and CS, so they, also, try to do all they can to keep you with them, including offering free months.
Also, you should keep the packaging you got your installation disk from. On AOL, CompuServe, and WM Connect, the number to cancel is listed in the packaging.
Good luck!

Cliff, if you are an employee, you shouldn't be. If you use WalMart Connect as your ISP, and your statements have a phone number on them you are a lucky one. I've had WalMart Connect as my ISP for a few years now, and not one of my statements have a phone number on them. I have not had any problems getting help with my account, but if you were who Karly had spoken with, or some one like you, I understand her frustration. You are rude, unprofessional, and have no business working in customer relations. Karly not once made a personal attack on any of the employees. Your attack on her is not good advertisement for prospective customers looking into customer feedback for WalMart Connect. Your thoughtlessness and inability to remain professional over the situation, gives the impression that WalMart Connect hires people who are rude and insensative to the customers concerns and feelings. Karly's call to WalMart Connect should have been handled in a professional manner, and she should have had some kind of feeling of accomplishment when she got off of the phone.

Hi, the name is Jeff, I live in Rutland vermont. I have been on Wal-Mart connect for a little bit over a year now. I LOVE IT>>>>> I sdo not have any problems with it. I have called a few times and have gotten quick service and when I get someone on the phone they are very polite. For the price , I think it is a very good deal. If you want fast, go to DSL or cable modem, remember this is dial up. I have brought quite a few new customers to Wal-Mart connect and they are very happy as well. Keep up the good work Wal- Mart.

Quit slamming Karly.
A customer service number is not much good when no one answers it.
I've been trying for days to cancel by calling the 1-888-855-0942 .ext 5 number and I have held for as long as an hour without anyone picking up.
The other service extensions immediately answered and after I explained my delimma to them all they could offer me, in their distinct Indian accent was to transfer me to that very same number and extension.
Their capabilities do not extend past their scripted replies and troubleshooting trees.
If anyone out there is so much smarter than Karly or myself, please send me a solution that will help me circumvent their 1-888 customer no-service nember.

I did not use wmconnect but another like it and after e-mailing twice and calling 3 times, they still have not closed out my account. I had to close my bank account and open another one to keep them from charging any more when I was not even using the service. It's really stupid that I have to do such things when they are not willing to hold to their end of the bargain.

Today ISPs have gotten very greedy, and it's true that they make canceling service very hard by not making phone numbers or instructions available. I have learned my lesson about which choice of billing I decide to use. Once you allow an ISP or Internet companies access to bill your credit card or checking account, it's close to impossible to stop them from debiting you. The banks should help consumers, and stop debits to accounts when the customers asks. After all it's your account and money. Why can't they do as you ask?!! It BS!! No money,= No services or merchandise. Laws have to change! For example, EA.com, "TheSimsOnline" authorizes your credit card 6 days in advance of your billing date!! I have never seen any merchant do this. Companies are doing what they want theses days. Consumer Affairs needs to do something to protect the consumer. Things are getting out of hand these days. To protect yourself, never allow anyone access to your bank account or credit card on the Internet. Buy a gift card or time card if you can.

Dear Karly,
It has come to my attention that many many many people like your self have let the basic education of grade school slip thier minds, because, apparently you failed to read/ comprehend the terms of service agreement that was promptly provided to you BEFORE YOU SET YOUR ACCOUNT UP!! Thats right Karly, before you were even allowed to sign online with walmart connect, you AGREED TO THE TERMS OF SERVICE, what you dont remember that little button that said I AGREE that you so hastily pushed to speed yourself online with a service, before even reading the rules and procedures ofr canceling it if you don't like it? say it isnt so Karly? please say it isn't so, but wait if you HAD READ THE TOS you would have known that it was futile to send an email to cancel your WMC service. but wait there's more, you obviously dont read your BANK STATEMENT EITHER!!! because next to every charge that the company put to your account, there is a phone number, readily accessible for illiterates like you. now i know what you might want to say... "I'm too busy for that sort of thing..." well let me tell you... any idiot can type in KW cancel, oops sorry Key Word cancel.. and get the phone number off the website... and as far as wanting your money back? why on earth should a corporation, give you your money back because you were so obviously lazy and stupid? it's people like you that refuse how to learn to use a dial up networking connetcion that make uncle bill gates millionaires (sp?) and really, if you had been in the least bit nice when you had FINALLY CALLED
