Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I have a current account with Washington Mutual. I always have paid on time and more than the minimum. I received my statement for this month and my interest rate went up more than double! I contacted them and they told me that their was a message on my bill in January telling me that the interest rate was going up and that I needed to send them a letter in writing opting out of my account and it would then close. Of course I didn't see the little message on the bill. Most of the time I log on to their website to check charges and therefore bill pay them.

This is makes me ill and I can't imagine how they can get away with this. Is there anyway to seek legal justice for my sake and others? Please help!!!

Almost nobody reads the Terms and Conditions of their credit cards when they first receive them nor do they read the updates which come with their billing statements and solications in the same envelope. I recommend you search the internet for prime-rate-for-life credit card. I have possessed such a Visa card since 1996 and my interest rate has went from a low of 4.25% to a high of 8.50% and my APR is currently 5.25%. I pay $89 a year for the low rate and the fee is worth the low rate. I have used my credit card to finance various home businesses and I currently have a balance over $20,000.

Yes there is a way for you to get justice. Ploy #1. Get a credit card with another bank at a lower interest rate and then transfer your balance from the high interest card to the lower one. Then, do not charge anything on the higher card EVER again - NOTHING. Wait about 6 months (so that the replacement card appears on your credit report) and then CLOSE the higher rate card. Ploy #2. They might not admit it, but the CC companies and banks WILL NEGOTIATE the interest rate on your credit card if your credit score is very good. (FYI - ALL CREDIT RATES ARE NEGOTIABLE if your credit score is very good.) You can telephone them and tell them that you receive cc offers from competitors in the mail all the time and normally throw them away. Tell them that you request that they return the interest rate to the lower rate and that if they don't you're gonna start opening and reading those other offers and switch to a card with a lower rate. I've done this 3 times over the last 3 years. Seems about once a year my CC informs me (yup - notice with the bill) that my rate is going to go up from the 9.99% rate. I call them and ask them to return it to 9.99% and so far they have complied. There is no reason for anyone with a very good credit score to tolerate this crap. If your credit score is above 750 do not tolerate this crap. If they don't lower your rate, then follow through with the threat. The way to seek justice is with your feet. You walk away from them, taking your money with you, to another company who wants your business.
