Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I recently traveled to Cancun with my family. We were approached in the airport by one of the people working in the "Tourist Information" booths down by the baggage claim. His name was Sergio Vaca, as you can see by the attached receipt. After he explained how to get where we were going, etc, he told us about your motel. He stated that we could get 3 free tour tickets of our choice for agreeing to visit your motel for 90 minutes. During that time we would have breakfast at your motel, and tour the motel to see the progress made post-hurricane. In return for our time, we were to receive three free tour tickets, and a free "Mexican Package" of liquor. He also stated that there was a required $30.00 cash deposit required to hold the tickets. We gave him the cash, and he drew little happy faces on it to supposedly identify the exact bills. He stated he would personally pick us up at 8:00 am the next morning at our motel, the Riu Cancun. He would meet us in a white van, in the bus stop. Needless to say, he did not show up. We walked up and down the street for 25 minutes and didn't see Sergio anywhere.

Later we learned that this was likely step one in a more elaborate scam, and I'm glad we didn't waste any more time with it.I feel you and your organization owe me $30.00 USD, as it's marked "100% refundable" on the attached receipt. Please send this remittance via PayPal. The phone number on the map that Sergio circled matches exactly the phone number on the site which I believe is your site, so I believe Sergio was acting as a representative of your organization.

Here are some of the actions I'm initiating to warn other travelers regarding the scam your organization is involved in; Sergio clearly stated that your organization (Club Regina) is associated with the US Westin hotel chain. I believe that's not true. I've already initiated contact with the US Westin hotel chain to make them aware of your fraud. I've registered the domain name where I will be explaining this fraud in detail, along with all supporting documentation and photographs. I will be posting feedback on all travel sites like to warn other travelers of this type of scam. I'll be developing an additional web site dealing with Cancun scams in general. I'll be offering rewards for photographs of the "tourist information" booths at the Cancun airport. I'll be contacting the US Embassy in Mexico , my US congressmen, and various other government agencies.

I also see that the domain name "clubregina.com" is registered to an organization in Houston , TX , who I will be following up with as well. I believe the Westin Club Regina owes me $30.00, and the additional costs generated in collecting. This currently is the $30.00, plus the $15.00 to register the clubregina.net domain name, for a current total of $45.00. Additional costs will be added to this total as they are incurred.

In closing, I still cannot believe that this Cancun organization has any connection with the US Westin organization. I've found the US Westin hotel group to be trustworthy and great hotels. This Cancun "Club Regina" organization is a massive and blatant scam, but is using the Westin name.

Timeshare Scam

The best advice is NEVER buying a timeshare anywhere. It is a scam and the so-called timeshare you buy is sold over and over again to other people. It is very difficult to sell your timeshare now and renting isn't in the deal. It will cost you more to buy a timeshare and maintenance fee than to rent a hotel room or a full ownership of a condo. Don't do it. There is good information about timeshare scams: http://www.timesharescam.com/blog/68-timeshare-scams-mexico-vs-us-why-are-there-more-situations-of-fraud-in-mexico/

Timeshare Companies are a SCAM

Most timeshare companies are taking advantage of people, often those who are more vulnerable and less able to resist hard sales tactics. I have heard of many cases where maintenance costs rise well above inflation. It would appear the timeshare companies lock people into contracts and then drive up their profits though increased maintenance charges. It would be good to see legislation whereby timeshare companies can only charge "reasonable" maintenance costs and not use this annual fee to fleece people's bank accounts.
