I bought a pair of these speakers (same story) but paid $100 for the pair. I think for that price they were and are a good buy.
This board is full of complaints about the ethics of the sale but I dont see much about the poor quality or sound of the speakers!!

AUDIOFILE 583LR are not real! San Diego California
Standard story of two guys in their twenties offering the 583LR speakers. I was at the Mira Mesa Mall getting in my truck when they pulled up.They were in a mid 90's chevy astro or gmc van. Licence plate (YST 104) from Oregon.
They got me for $260. The speakers work...for now...
