I have signed up with 1&1 in Feb. 2012 purchased a domain name and a 12 month hosting contract.
After 2 month my website got corrupted by their server set up, maintenance or whatever.
This happened several times where my website was total shot and not accessible.
So I decided to cancel in March 2012.
I have called in to 1&1 Service and stated that i need to cancel my account. ( they have that on record - was confirmed by 1&1)
On the call I was notified that i would need to cancel online - which i promptly did.
In Feb 2013 i get an invoice which i took as a mistake on their part so i called asking what's going on.
Now here it comes:
The Service Team member advised that he can see i called in (3/8/12) and cancelled and cancelled online but i should have called back after i cancelled online to confirm again?!?!
So the 1&1 cancellation process is:
You have to call in and cancel, then go and cancel online and after that you have to call back to confirm the cancellation.
Anyway beware there is no complaints supervisor or department you can call - only e-mail and they don't care.
I have been going back and forth with the complaints department but stopped since they refuse to help or understand.
After cancelling  times they still say my account is active!

They have the worst customer service and really no interest in assisting or providing any service besides taking your money.

The cancellation process is very difficult and tricky - Make sure you get any kind of cancellation confirmation.
