I joined Able Translations in April 2015 and my first assignment was in May 2015 and I did 6 assignemnts in May alone.  I did 17 more assignments in the following months.  According to my contract, I supposed to receive a cheque end of July for work done in May.  As it is already August, and I have not received any cheque, I called Able Translations and was given the run around.  I emailed my Coordinator5 Merin who directed me to email [email protected].  I emailed the Human Resources Specialist Giovanna De Gennaro ext. 7269 who hired me and called her as well but she never responded. I called Accounting Nicola ext. 7230 but only got her voice mail.  I called Receptionist and finally talked to someone live and I was told Nicola is not longer responsible for payment and I should email [email protected] again.  I never got a response from [email protected]

I felt something was very fishy for the Human Resouces person not to respond at all and so I went online today to check.  I was disappointed to find out that there were so many complaints online about Able Translations not paying their contractor Interpreters I realized I have been cheated.

I know the Workplace Safety Insurance Board use Able Translations a lot and I will get to the bottom of this.  I read online that the Ministry of Labour is not handling because we Interpreters are considered independent Contractors and not employees.  But I cannot believe a company the size of Able who apparently has offices all over the world can get away with not paying their contractors although they have been paid by their clients.  There must be a place for us Interpreters to file a complaint, be it Small Claims Court, Better Business Bureau, the police, Ministry of Labour, Workplace Safety Insurance Board.

If Able Translations is reading this report, my suggestion is that you pay all your Interpreters and Translators immediately or you will be accountable for what you do.
