This man signed a contract to do the Architectual drawings for a church located in NE Washington, DC. This man took 95% of the money and left the Pastor with some worthless drawings that were laughed at by other reputable Architects in the DC area. All of the contact phone numbers that he gave to the Pastor and those located on his business card were disconnected. This man was pursued for several months and he was no where to be found. Also tells people that he's a saved Christian. From my understanding he has cheated other people as well. If you see this man run from him.

These people approached me to help them come up with preliminary drawings for construction of a new church building. Based upon what I saw, these people did not have the experience or knowledge to undertake such a task. I did provide to them exactly what they asked for, after meeting with them several times. Rather than hire a professional to help them determine what they needed, they relied on the pastor and his wife to determine requirements. There was another gentleman who claimed to know cosntruction but did not. I explained to them that the very first thing required was for them to have a zoning and building code analysis done. This would tell them exactly what they could do. I did this for them and even gave them a preliminary budget number for the entire project.
I went above and beyond what I said I would do (in my proposal) and even offered alternatives to them. They got upset with me, did not pay me all of my agreed upon fee, and filed this bogus complaint.
The only thing that bothers me about this whole process is the fact that these people call themselves christians.

I told them that the preliminary drawings submitted to them were nothing more than that, drawings to depict what the permit and constructions drawings would be based upon. I also told them that they would not be able to do anything with these drawings other than come up with ideas if they wished to proceed further. ( I think they tried to get a permit with them but I also told them that they needed a professional engineer for mechanical, structural, and civil services. Too bad they did not listen to me.)
The lesson I learned from this is to not deal with people who have no knowledge of what they are about to pursue. That should have been clear to me when they gave me drawings from someone else who had 'started' their project. To date, the lot is still empty and no building has been built.
I have been getting permits in the DC area for more than 30 years. I cannot count the number of completed projects I have done over the years. The very few (less than5 out of several hundred) that were problems resulted in the customer not wanting to do what was required by code or regulation or the owner deciding to circumvent me once the permit drawings were approved. I have sued just one client and that was because she told me that she would pay when she felt like it, after having stolen the approved permit drawings from the permit center in DC with the help of a DC DCRA employee. Rather put her name and information here, I just let it go because karma is real. Eventually she paid me because the lien I filed would not let her sell the property.
I take pride in my work and all of my work comes from referrals. My prices are reasonable and I do an excellent job. Unfortunately not every client sees it that way. All I ask is that people tell the WHOLE truth.
