Your experience with the Account Now (Meta Bank) is a recurring complaint unfortunately. Hopefuly, others out there will read your report and make even more people aware of this senseless indifference, highly questionable, and unethical conduct!
For those who may be in a similar situation as Cindy, i.e. not having a checking account and beginning to receive Social Security benefits (SSDI, SSI, etc)...be aware that Social Security has available their own debit card. specifically for those beneficiaries who do not have or cannot afford a checking account (regardless of the reason). [With many banks now starting to charge customers to have a basic checking account or even use their debit cards, many beneficiaries are turning to this SSA debit card as an alternative].
You can learn more about the card at the socialsecurity.gov website, including signing-up for the card. The card is used just like most bank debit cards, and there are no monthly fees to have the card. Be sure to carefully read all the info on the website regarding where you can find ATM's to withdraw cash, etc. (I believe there may be a very small fee [less than $1.00] if a person makes more than a certain number of cash withdrawals in a 1-month period).
This is a far safer alternative than using the Account Now card Cindy reported on. If your card is stolen or lost, it is a simple matter to obtain a replacement, and SSA will even mail out the replacement via overnight delivery, for an additional fee.
Hope everything has worked out for you Cindy and thanks very much for posting about your experience!
