Complaint Review: Accurate Engines - Grandville Michigan

3 weeks ago I contacted Accurate Engines regarding warranty work on my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The engine blew a rod, while driving down the road in Frankfort, MI. I left a few voicemails and finally I got someone a week later. They told me to bring it in. We towed it in on a flatbed in two days. We talked to Brittany when we dropped it off. She took the keys and said we’ll give you a call tomorrow. I did not hear from anyone for five days. Tried to call several times no one would return my call. So I just go there. Talk to Brittany again. She said they had to look at it yet. It would more than likely be $390 depending on inspection. Then I asked her what does that mean. They have to look at it. I said there’s not Warranty loop holes are there? (I said that because I saw their reviews online showed they are really bad at doing Warranty work.) She said unless your vehicle overheated and the heat tabs have melted or you didn’t change the oil. It will be $390.??. You will have a new rebuilt engine (? I don’t remember the change amount.)  She said they’ll look at it and give you a call in a couple days. After a week and a half of not hearing back. I called a couple times between then. Yesterday I went to Accurate Engines after a week and a half of not hearing back from anyone on my truck at 12:55. I walked in no one was at the desk. So I thought I would look back in the shop. My truck was back there with the engine pulled. I went back in the front a few times. The door buzzer rang every time I went out. Finally someone came to the front. I said I was checking on my truck. I haven’t received a call back, and its been a week and a half. She asked my name I told her. And shes like ohhh…. Was it for warranty. I said yes. She said you need to talk to the warranty girl Jenn I’ll go get her.

After about 10 mins she comes out. Has a folder on my truck. Says that the engine builder said it looked like your vehicle was submerged in water. He even stated it may have been a lake. The repair costs will be $1500 and we can have it done right away. I was like submerged? My truck was never submerged at all. I was driving down the road when it happened. Then she showed me pics with dirt on the outside of the engine. Which my property is on a dirt road which makes since. She kept telling me it would be $1500. I explained what I was told before by Brittany regarding warranty and now were going from $390 to $1500. She said well if you want to talk to the engine builder you can. He can show you your engine. He’ll be back in 20 min. 20 min turned into 40 min. In that time a customer came in complaining about they just had an engine installed that was supposed to be new. Had the oil changed and it had almost no oil in it. Finally Jenn came back to bring me to see the engine builder. He explained that it looked like it was submerged because it had dirt on the outside and there was fluid in one of the cylinder ports. I told him the truck was never submerged at all. It was raining that was about it. I told him we were driving downtown Frankfort went around ther turnaround at Frankfort beach. Which is fully paved. He said well even a cup of water from a puddle could have done it. Even though the Airbox is sealed. I said that’s not submerged, and my truck has a  factory lift/Transmission cooler that gives it a lift, with 35” tires. A splash from a puddle going 25 mph through Frankfort is not going to make that happen. He agreed with me I told him we literally turned around and was heading out of Frankfort and its started to knock and got louder and louder and I turned it off. He asked me how it ran before that. I told him before we had grabbed lunch at the Marina restaurant. When we left I turned it over and it didn’t start right away. Then tried it again and it did. But it wasn’t running like it normally did. He said that sounds like more of an injector issue. He asked me about the dirt on the bottom. I told him my property is on a Dirt road. Which it is. My property is (((REDACTED))), MI right off cinder road. He then stated again it could have been one of the fuel injectors. We haven’t had time to really check it. (So basically before they even knew, they just told me it was submerged and wouldn’t be covered under warranty) He pointed out the ports again. He said more than likely it was the fuel injector, see that one port how its cleaner than the other. If the fuel injector went bad it would shoot too much gas into the cylinder pushing fluid in there which more than likely locked the rod. If it had been submerged all the ports would look the same. Then we were talking about the area because he has a place in Arcadia, which is about 30 min from my place in Beulah. He said he could have my truck done in a couple of days. That he just had to replace the rod, and something that was hit by the rod. I think it was a plug or something. He said he would talk to the Warranty person about the injector.  I thanked him for his time then went to see the warranty person Jenn thinking all would be good to go.

I entered the office again, and told Brittany I needed to talk to Jenn again. Which she seemed surprised. Within this time Ik she had not talked to the engine builder. He was still back there. She came up front. I told her that I had talked to him, and he said it was more than likely the fuel injector. I explained why. And how if it had been submerged all the ports would be the same color. She just said ok, but that doesn’t change the cost at all. It would still be $1500 for the rebuild. I was like huh… how can that be. Its still under warranty. She says because fuel injectors are external engine parts they are not covered. I was like fuel injectors are inside the engine. How can you say their external engine parts. She then asked did you have them tested. We have those sent out to Diesel something. (which my truck doesn’t have a diesel at all. So… not sure about that) No you rebuilt my engine. I paid you $4500 to rebuild my engine. I’m the customer. Its not my responsibility to check my fuel injectors. You rebuilt my engine you should know if the fuel injectors are good no matter what. And from what I was told it wasn’t even the same engine that was in my truck when it was rebuilt. That’s neither here no there. Even the engine builder said he wanted to replace the fuel injector to make sure it didn’t go back into the engine, and have the same thing happen again. She kept repeating it will be $1500 injectors aren’t covered and said to let us know what you want to do. If you want to call us later today you can. Since the times I’ve been here because you guys never call back. I’ve heard to customers screaming about faulty work every time I come in. One customer getting a new engine with old oil in it. Your reviews online are terrible.  I said I definitely have a few calls to make. Then I walked out the door.

One thing I didn’t address is; I was told that under warranty I would have a fully rebuilt engine. Brittany stated when I first brought it in. When I asked about the price. She stated for $390 you get a new rebuilt engine under warranty. Which its not rebuilt. He’s just replacing the rod. What if another fuel injector goes out or another rod goes out. Then I’m back to square one. I have a hard time believing the inside of the engine is in that great of shape with the rod hitting so hard the rod broke. He also stated that a piece of the rod was in the engine at this time.

I want them to honor the warranty. Rebuild the engine for the stated price of $390. I feel like they were just looking for a way to get out of honoring the warranty. A fuel injector is not an external engine part.
