June 10th, 2011 I was contacted by Derrick Bowers claiming he was a process server for a client that I supposedly owed money to. Not only did he call me, but he also called my mother, and sister and told them that I owed money to his client, and if he couldn't reach me, he would pursue at my residence and place of business. During his talk, he claimed to have been trying to contact me for some time, and since he wasn't able to, he wanted to schedule a date and time when he could come serve me with court papers, if I didn't contact his client by the end of the day. He issued me a telephone number and a reference number.
I then proceeded to contact this client, and in doing so, I was asked for my SSN. I refused to reveal my SSN until I knew exactly who this was and what the problem was. They stated to me that if I did not verify my SSN, no information would be given. I then asked them to send proof of the debt, and the rep stated that since their office was a "green" office, this could not be done. I then, again, refused to give my SSN, and the rep got upset and started to threaten me with jail and/or court and fines. I told the rep that it would be much easier if he could just provide me with the legal business name, and physical address of the company. He then got very angry, and shouted that the police will be contacting me, and then he hung up.
I then called the office back, and was harrassed by 2 different people, all the while I was asking who they were and what they wanted. I was then told that it was a cash advance loan, and that when I signed up for it there was an arbitration disclosure and that I am liable for anything that they asked for. I told them I would not give up any information, nor would I pay something that I did not owe. I then complained that their process server called my family and made embarrassing statements about this so-called debt, and the rep got infuriated with me and made some derogatory statements about my mother and her mouth being full at the moment. I got upset, and said something I shouldn't have, and was told that if I called again, they would sue me for harrassment.
So, I did a little homework on this company. The website administration contact is Felix Omar Lopez. Felix has a cigar shop in the very same building as ACS. Upon further investigation I was able to secure other telephone numbers, the physical address, and a fax number. I checked around, and cannot seem to find any Allstate Check Recovery listing. So, my next endeavor will be to contact Fort Mill PD, the BBB, and the local telco to find out more.
