AIRTRON A Direct Energy Company Not So Cool Scam Dallas, Texas
The Airtron guy came out in the Spring, pretended to charge the A/C system with 3 lbs of Freon which he charged us for, and didn't actually install. Later, when the weather was so hot, and the system wasn't cooling, he charged us for another 2 lbs of Freon which he didn't install, sprayed some Freon around the condenser and said the condenser coils were leaking. Then said it would cost almost as much to replace the coil as get a whole new system. He said I'd also need new coils in the attic, since the old ones wouldn't take the new coolant. He said it was illegal to install another Freon unit - we'd have to have the new kind.
It turned out the condenser was dirty, inside and out. No leak anywhere. And the coil unit upstairs is labeled - under the model and serial number - with the kind of coolant it will accept. It takes both the new coolant and Freon.
He tried to rip us off selling us a new system we didn't need.
