On black Friday I got a flyer in my windshield wiper at Target that said, "*CONGRADULATIONS*

For Taking Part In Our Random Number Give Away

IF YOUR LUCKY NUMBER IS LISTED IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING COLUMNS, YOU WILL RECEIVE ONE OF THE GIFTS LISTED BELOW FROM OUR LOCAL STORE.

. XBOX-360

.I-POD MINI

.DVD PLAYER

.LAS VEGAS VACATION PACKAGE

.WEBBER BBQ GRILL

.PREMIUM DIGITAL CAMERA"

ect... Obviously I had a 'winning number' and there was no purchase of any kind required. The flyer said the store hours were 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. but the free gift would be sent. :/ It had some blah blah about odds of winning and some 'code' written in, and there was a phone number hand written on the flyer. I called the number ((619)813-1199) and the man at the other end answered and confirmed that I won a prize. Then he said to get the prize I had to participate in a free carpet shampooing at my house and proceeded to set up an appointment for the next day (Saturday). He went on to explain that the flyer was a marketing promotion since the company was expanding from Southern California. It kind of sounded legit, so I thought 'yay I won something and get a free carpet shampoo', and since he only asked for my first name I didn't think there was anything to worry about. He didn't ask if I was married, just for my address and my wife's first name. I didn't think about it at the time, but how would have have known that I was married... I did think about how "Random" the flyer was and looked around at the other cars. The catch is, I'm in the military and none of the other 20 cars around mine had base stickers; mine had the "enlisted" color and housing sticker, plus 2 car seats in a mid-sized SUV pretty much makes me a prime candidate for this kind of scam. Even still, I went along with it until the next day. He called about 2 hours early for the appointment and asked that I heavily vacuumed my carpet and not to move any furniture around. That seemed weird for a carpet cleaning company, so I decided to look it up. After an hour or so of searching for this company I only found 1 mention on the merchantreport.com website saying it was in San Diego... so that kind of added up.

After a little while, he called again and said he would be waiting outside the main base gate since the commercial gate closed and that I would have to vouch for him so he could get on base and he'd be in a black tahoe wearing a white hat and red sweater. That sounded odd, so before I left I google'd his number (same one from the flyer (619)813-1199) and only found an ad on craigslist from Carson City selling a $600 vacuum for $125, so I decided to ask him for creditials before I helped him on base. When I got to the parking lot outside the gate he said he wanted me to tell the security guards that he was my friend John Ramsey and that he was just coming to visit because it was easier that way. This was a HUGE red flag, so I told him about how I searched for his company and didn't find anything. He told me I was wrong and pulled out his Iphone so he could show me. He pulled up a white page with:

All Coast Company

4694 Alvarado Canyon Rd Ste A

San Diego, CA 92120

619-582-0521

I told him that was fine, but I needed to see some credentials of some kind like a card or something. He said he didn't have a card and started getting rude saying "If you don't want to do this, that's fine. I have a lot of work to do anyway." So I told him I would have to pass and he just said fine and drove off quickly. This whole ordeal was very odd and seemed like a scam anyway, especially since he wanted me to lie to the base guards and didn't have a company vehicle (just a black tahoe) and no card or verification of identification. Also, he wanted to make sure that my wife was home "because 2 word of mouth contacts is better than one", but he obviously didn't care much for the word of mouth advertising as you can see by my report. Either way, it was all way too shady for me and I'd advise anyone not to call or allow this guy into your house. Oh, and that number for the company is disconnected, and if you google map the address... it's an overpass. Definately a scam. 6195820521; 6198131199; JR, John Ramsey, All Coast Carpet Cleaning, all fake.

This has nothing to do with my company. How is this related to my company? Is this a scam to ruin my reputation?
