My husband and I ordered a hypoallergenic kitten from ALLERCA in the summer of 2007 when there was a two-year waiting list. The estimated delivery date was  June 5, 2009. We paid about $4000.00 up-front, from my checking account. We spoke to Simon Brodie personally on the phone.

In December of 2008, an employee named Vanessa called to tell me the delivery was going to be moved to about three months later, September of 2009.

On Nov. 23, 2009, I received an email from Simon Brodie announcing that the company would be sending out monthly status reports as PDFs to let customers know their place in the wait list, but also that the company was under new ownership, and as a result the pet division would be shutting down. To quote, " As such, we will be closing our order book on December 31, 2009 after more than 5 years, although we will continue to deliver and retain a small breeding pool to fulfill the replacement guarantee in the event this is required."

I did receive some PDF updates on my place in the waiting list after that, but not every month:

On Jan. 8 2010, I received an email from ALLERCA with an attachment showing my position (no. 51) in the waiting list. On Feb. 23, 2010 another updated list showed me at 47 out of 95. It was stated here that everyone on that list would receive their kitten by the end of October, 2010. On May  13, 2010, I received another update showing me at number 42 on the waiting list.

There was one more phone call from another employee at the company within a year or two, saying that I was still on the waiting list. I learned next via online- search that the company had closed completely, and that Simon Brodie was selling other products.

I was legally advised to send a certified letter to the company requesting my money back, but at that point there was no physical location to direct it to.
