Beware of Carefree Coatings, owner Wayne McNeil!!!  Will not uphold his contract!!  We obtained a few estimates to paint the entire exterior of our home, which included the brick foundation and a very large fireplace. Wayne's estimate was the highest we received, however, we decided to go with him because of the type of work he told us he does and we wanted it done right.  He gave us a contract stating that he would Sand, Scrap and Feather-Sand all areas that needed it PRIOR to priming, also that he would Repair or Replace and Damaged, Loose or Rotten Wood (all in the contract) then he would prime the entire house and go back and caulk any cracks or holes. We even showed him certain areas of the house that we were concerned about and he said, that'll be fixed, my crew can take care of that.

Day 1: His crew came out, sprayed the entire house with primer. Day 2: the crew sprayed the house with paint, Day 3: the crew sprayed the trim with paint .On day 3 we were on vacation at the beach so we weren't home. Upon our return, we looked at our home and immediately noticed the small open cracks in the exterior walls of our home (that he had already told us he would fix); runs and bubbles in the paint, damaged trim that wasn't repaired or replaced (that he said his crew would fix); damaged exterior places on our home that weren't sanded, scrap or anything but painted. As a matter of fact, some of the new paint was already starting to peel!! There are white areas in the grooves of the wood all over the house where the primer is still showing and white areas in the grooves of the brick foundation where primer is still showing.  There is a lot of overspray on the 4 New windows that we purchased from him, as well as the two atrium doors on the front of our house ( Wayne assured us there would not be any overspray)!!  On one of the new windows there is a white handprint from one of his crew workers.

We called Wayne and advised him that we have some issues with the job and asked him to come out.  He came out, with his crew, and we pointed out the many problems.  When we showed him the small open cracks in the wood, he kept saying that he couldn't see anything and then we he did finally say he could see it, he said that it is normal.  We then showed him the areas where the paint is bubbled and peeling and where the primer was still showing.  He then proceded to insult us by implying that we don't have any common sense. He got so mad that he left stating he'd be back Saturday w/ his crew.  He did come back and his crew worked on certain spots filing in with paint where primer was still showing. they also spot sanded some areas on the trim and walls. When we addressed the cracks in the boards again, he said that it's normal for boards to crack and he said he can't fix it. At that point we took photos of the cracks and went to Lowes &  the Sherwin Williams store to see if it is normal and if not how to fix them. Both Lowes and Sherwin Williams advised that it is called "checking" and that the cracks should have been either repaired or the board replaced BEFORE priming and painting and that if left as it is now, water will get behind the boards and cause further damage to the house. Upon our return, we told Wayne what Sherwin Williams & Lowes told us and he got very upset stating that he'll get an Arbitrator out here from Sherwin Williams to look at it.

Then he told us that he was finished and wanted the balance of $3,000.  We told him that we're not paying him until the job is completed and it is still not completed.  We still have chewed up trim that should have been replaced completely that they just painted over (without even applying a peice of sand-paper to). Bubbles in the paint, peeling paint, areas that they didn't paint!!, and a portion of our foundation that they didn't even prime, much less paint.  When we told him we want the job completed, his exact words to us was, I've done all i can do and i've done all i'm gonna do!"  Then he proceded to tell us that he will have his attorney file a lein on our home and collect the $3,000 in small claims court!! HE completely changed his mind about having an arbitrator come out and said he's putting a lein on our Home. Not only do we have a house with painted over peeling paint, unpainted areas, damaged wood left in place with a new coat of paint, it will need to be corrected and re-painted and he is suing us!

All we wanted is for him to do as HE put in HIS contract to us that we both signed!  Apparently all WAYNE MCNEIL wants is our money!!!!  We have photos to prove the shoddy work.   If you would like to view these photos, I'll be MORE than happy to share them with you.  I would not wish this for anyone.

I didn't find this on Rip-Off report until after the fact, unfortunately.  I hope that you don't find yourself in the same position.

Didn't happen that way

The customers house was a rough huded A frame. I first installed 4 windows on each side of his chimney. A few weeks later after ckecking my referance I gave him a bid 2 paint his home. He gave me a $1600 ck for the deposit. The ck bounced. He was leaving on a vacation while we painted his house. He ask me 2 run the ck back through, the bank said it might take 2-3 days to clear, by that time I would b half way thru the job. I told him 2 get a bank ck for the amount & I would do the job.

I read my contracts to the customer & make sure that we're both on the same page. My contracts also state that I'll replace all rotten wood. At the end of the job he wanted me to replace several boards that he didn't like but they were solid but showed saw marks wher they were rough cut at the mill. He didn't mention this at the start, he was happy with what I explained. I explained that they wern't rotten but I would replace them but I would have to charge him a  reasonable price. This upset him & thats when the problems started. He started walking around the house picking at places we had just painted. He pull  paint off a freshly painted window seal & raised a stink about the paint peeling. Paint will try in usually 20-25 minutes in warm weather but according to the Sherman Williams Rep which came out & inspected the job It takes 10-14 days for it to firmely bond to the surface. He reported the job was done correctly.

The customer also stated we got overspray on the windows. We tape & cover all windows, brick & anything else to protect from paint spray. Me & 2 helpers went back on Sat. & worked from 8:30 - 5 to try and please this couple but no luck. I told him I would c him n court.

This guy hired me because of my ratings of A+ BBB, 98% approval with Home Advisory which he got my name & to this day I have a 4.81 rating w/ H. Advisory over 9 1/2 yrs working with them. A with Angie's List. The judge wouldn't let my lawyer enter any of these customers comments showing my track record with doing right by my customers. He said this was only about this 1 job. He & his wife misrepresented & faboricated most everthing they said but it was my word against theirs. Looking back I have NO doubt this couple intended to beat me out of the $ 3200 they owed me. They did do that plus $ 500 for a lawyer. Knowing the moral makup of these 2 people they probably have no problem looking themselves in the mirrow. What goes around sometimes comes around 2 fold.

Please go to homeadvisory.com & c what 70 of my customers have to say about me & my co.

Thank You - Carefree Coatings & Windows

Wayne McNeil took us to court and his case was dismissed!!

This is to update our headache with this man, Wayne McNeil and his company "Carefree Coatings and Windows" of Charlotte/ Davis Lake, NC.  After Mr. McNeil broke his contract to us by not "sanding/scraping or feather-sanding" or "repairing or replacing and DAMAGED, LOOSE OR ROTTEN wood" he took US to court to try to order us to pay him the balance anyway.  Well, our court date was yesterday and his case against us was DISMISSED by the judge!  He even started to argue the contract with the judge!  This man obviously doesn't know what is in his own contract!

I have never had such an unprofessional experience with anyone that we've hired to do anykind of work for us in my life!  He has resorted to name calling us, stating that my husband is 'Hen-Pecked' and that we don't have the money to pay him.  At this point, if he keeps up the lies about our character, we will be suing him for Liable and Slander.
