What's wrong with AIU's accounting practice? Perhaps all of their Financial Aid Advisor should take a math class at AIU (of course that would cost $3,000) not to say all of them are bad, it's just their practice of accounting. I'm a current student enrolled in the BIT program and I was just down to my core classes, when I received an e-mail from my advisor indicating that I owed $3,523.00.

Well, I went in and one of the advisor said it was a mistake and that I owed $12,000 (because I was taking two classes), so I said that I would drop one class and they told that would be fine, but you still owe us $9,000 and we need this by April (I almost passed out when they told me this).

They said I needed to pay $1,760.00 a month for a school payment, now I'm all for my education, but this is outrageous! They were un-willing to except a $500.00 payment (I currently pay $150.00 out-of-pocket). I'm going on two years at AIU and had great experiences both on-line and on campus. AIU has changed my Financial Aid Advisor so many times, I just stopped counting.

I contacted another school, so I can complete my final classes for my degree and their financial aid advisor noticed that AIU took out $9,500 on my behalf for financial aid, so the other financial aid advisor from the other school tells me they owe me that $9,500 back, she said she was confused and did not understand AIU's accounting.

She is currently trying to get a hold of AIU (good luck), in the mean time this leaves my hopes of graduating with my classmates and from AIU in complete ruin or, perhaps it's a sign (take my money and run).

It seems to me that AIU is not interested in my education, but is very interested in my money. Let's see what threats they tell me.

The LAPTOP SCAM a Total RIP-OFF! I first noticed AIU on the web with their annoying pop-up ads. "Free Laptop" if you enroll, so guess what I did (I enrolled), they made it seem that I needed this laptop for school and my degree, and I figured I needed it too, since I was taking IT classes. However, I got stuck with a $3,000 bill! How free was that?

Thanks AIU, now I'm in debt and I can't finish my degree until I pay up. No wonder Career Education Corp. is being investigated by the SEC and the U.S. Justice Department (grand jury probe) that it had falsified records to obtain more federal funding then they should have(August 25. 2004).
