Amwood Homes Sent us to unqualified builder. lied, kept money that should have been refunded to us. Janesville Wisconsin
These guys sent us to Douglas Nelson of Cascade Builders of WI. We had no choice and quickly found out this guy doesn't know anything about construction from what we can tell. He doesn't know how to create a budget or contract. He didn't know the wisconsin building codes nor did he want to do anything but sit and collect money.
He is a certified builder of Amwood Homes in Janesville and they too put the screws to us many times. We didn't know going in that we would not be Amwood's customer but would be Dougs. This was who Amwood said we needed to use as a GC but never mentioned that would make Doug their customer and not us. Doug nor Amwood returns calls or emails. We never got the chance to do any pics for faucets, sinks etc.
We had to do all that on our own and purchase them as well. When Doug took too long to get simple measurements back to Amwood, we had to go elsewhere or it would cost an additional 3-4 weeks wait so had Doug purchase. We had already paid Amwood so we were expecting the refund but no. After they accepted payment from us, we were told Doug is customer so they had to return the refund to Doug...... They both have kept money that should have gone back to us.
At original meeting we told Doug we wanted a turn key house. We had built two in the past but wanted to relax through this one. All but relaxing was what we ended up with. Doug said 120 days and we are still not done 8 months later. We had to deal with the punch list from the village inspector as well as buy and install all door hardware, closet rods and shelves and the mess left behind. Doug went over budget with no change orders on several if not all occasions.
Got to the point that I hated this house that was supposed to be our last retirement house. Please, please stay away from Cascade builders and Amwood Homes. You WILL regret it if you don't. There is so much more that went on with this guy and Amwood Homes that are too numerous to mention. Needless to say I was so frustrated at one point that I had to ask him if he had ever built a house before! Remember, Amwood is where we got this guy. Buyer beware!!!!!
