I've several items listed for sale on Craigslist. I received an email asking if item was still available from "Tay And ([email protected])". Responded that item was still available then get another email, from "Andrew Taylor ([email protected])" saying he'll overnight me a cashiers check, please provide contact name, address (no PO's as UPS doesn't deliver there) then have his agent contact me to arrange someone coming to my home to pickup the piece of furniture. Oh, and by the way, I'm deaf so prefer to correspond by email only.

This made me really suspicious so did a name and email search and find this same person tried this same scam on someone else using "Andrew Taylor
I used to work in banking, have seen this scam too many times to count. Here's what happens. First, you get, and deposit, the check. Then one of two things happens, the buyer says it wasn't what they wanted after all and asks for a refund (less any bank charges to give them back a REAL cashiers check) and you are given a drop box rental address to send it to, or the item is valuable enough for the scammer to sell themselves and they disappear.

Then you find out their cashiers check isn't good (this can take the banks weeks to figure out). You will then find that the address on the UPS pickup doesn't exist, the names and phone numbers are fake. You are out the item sold, the money has to be given to the bank, plus any penalties.

I responded to the buyer that I would only accept cash, have heard nothing since, so knew it was a scam.

When I checked on the web for similar scenarios "Andrew Taylor ([email protected])" came up. Someone on Craigslist had tried to report the suspicious activity. Please Note: is only one digit different from the first email I received. Sellers Beware!
