I've had this happen a couple times, too. You're positive you paid it years ago, but don't have any paperwork or anything that would prove you paid it. Write a letter to this company, saying "I hereby dispute these charges", and tell your side of the story in detail, including that you sent in a check. If they cannot PROVE that you still owe the money, then they have to stop calling you and remove you from their service. I had companies call me about phone and electric bills that were paid 5 years ago, the phone and electric companies had no record of me owing any money, and one of these letters to each of the two collection agencies that were calling me stopped it cold. Also, after you do this, check your credit report in a few months to make sure it's gone. Good luck!
