I bought a Baja Motorsport SC150 Scooter at Atwoods in Stillwater Oklahoma for $1100. Brand new. It cost me $150 to license it and $300 to insure it and after riding it about 3 times.............a total of about 60 miles and in less than a month after purchase, the engine locked up.

Called Atwoods and they said they don't do that.......take it to the authorized mechanic. We did that. Baja didn't even want to pay to have it checked out. Said, and I quote "It is our policy that whatever goes wrong is the customers fault..........always the customers fault."

They refused to repair it and refused to refund my money. They grudgingly, after a lot of fighting over the phone, agreed to allow a diagnostic to be done. But refused to pay for more than one hours work!

This scooter has been nothing but trouble from the start. Atwoods refuses to refund my money either.

In my opinion this is piss poor business and I will NEVER buy another item from Atwoods nor will I ever buy anything from Yamaha.......who owns Baja!

From what I understand, from another source, they are under a lawsuit for just this sort of thing..........by many people. DO NOT EVER buy from this company..........you might just as well flush your money down the toilet!

I have contacted a lawyer and I am going to fight to get my money back. When I told them this they all of a sudden wanted to repair the scooter..........too little too late.

The mechanic also told me that the engine parts are plastic and worthless. This scooter isn't worth $2 much less $1100.

I'm not going to attempt to dispute the lack of service you received from both Atwood's and Baja, but just wondered if you observed the break-in recommendations in the manual. For the record, I purchased a Baja SC150 from the same Atwoods in Stillwater. I have over 1000 trouble-free miles on it so far. My only complaint is that the front disc brake rotor was apparently warped out-of-the-box (there is a noticable shudder when applying the front brakes, especially at low speed). First, did you change the engine oil? You would hope that Atwoods would have done that for you, but I wouldn't count on it. I believe the manual mentions changing the oil before starting it, though it's not very clearly or prominently noted. I also found information on the Internet indicating that the oil shipped in Chinese scooters in general is either (a) for shipping only or (b) of very poor quality. I paid 3 bucks for a quart of synthetic oil and changed the crankcase oil before ever starting it. Did you observe the break-in procedure recommended in the manual? It says that you should not exceed 45 miles per hour for the first 250 miles. When you enter into a deal to pay $1100 for something that usually ("name brands") costs 3 times that amount, two thoughts should be reviewed carefully before pulling out your credit card: (1) buyer beware and (2) you get what you pay for.

Who told you that Yamaha allegedly owns Baja? I have seen some misleading advertisements on the net (S Chinese based websites) saying that something was Yamaha powered when it indeed is not. Baja is Chinese made knock-off machines (eg: they are cloning old Yamaha, Honda technology). I can almost assure you that Volma Linhai Engines are not made by Yamaha and the only people proclaiming this are the Chinese websites. I was a service center for Baja and they are atrocious top deal with. I waited 3 months to get paid warranties and only got it after threatening further action to claim my funds.
