I purchased cellular service and a phone from BellSouth Mobility for use in Jacksonville, Florida, in April, 1999. During my purchase, the sales person stated that my service was available all over the BSM service area (basically the entire southeast US).

In November, 1999, it was necessary for me to move to the Tampa area. Before moving, I called BSM's customer service and told them I was moving, and asked what I needed to do to continue my service in Tampa. The customer service person said that all I needed to do was go into a local BSM store, and they would just re-program my phone, and that it would not cost me a thing.

Upon my arrival in Tampa, I did just that. However, the person in the store told me that it would be necessary for me to pay them another $80.00 to buy a new phone, because they were on a different frequency in Tampa than Jacksonville.

I then called the customer service back, and they told me that was correct, however they would offer to take $20 off the cost of the phone for me and I would only need to pay them $60. This was unacceptable to me, and I told them to cancel my service when it expired. I now have service with another cellular company.
