Avalon Appaloosas, Horses, is a PMU Facility, where the Young Foals, a by-product of Pregnant Mares Urine Ranchers-- are put up for 'adoption' each year to 'save' them from slaughter. Prices vary greatly depending on breed and whether the Animal is registered or not.

In 2002, I purchased one of these foals from a picture on the internet, through a dealer, Ropin-R Appaloosas. She was a cute Grade Filly in the early picture, the only one I was allowed to see.

I used Paypal to send my monies for The Filly, Naeric Registration and micro-chipping, to Ropin-R Appaloosas in South Carolina. I was asked by Avalon's owner to keep the shipping monies here in cash for when he arrived with my baby.

When she did arrive, I was appalled, to say the least!! I had the Vet out right away. She was nothing more than a bag of bones and was infested with internal parasites as well external parasites, having both forms of Equine Lice. She was also diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and was put on Penicillin for 37 Days!! The Vet also treated her internal parasites, but she was given a barely 50% chance of survival.

The Vet also stated she cold not handle the cold weather, and I was to build a stall for her in my 'heated basement' for the entire winter.

We had several close calls with her illness and her colicing at least once a week. This was emotionally draining for us all mainly my 12 year old daughter.

I contacted Mr. Meggison about this situation, and added costs in receiving a near dead filly from him. I requested some aid from him to help with these costly expenses not just financial, but any kind of help such as a load of hay or something to offset the unexpected costs of caring for this very ill filly.

He replied that he would not help and stated, "Just think If you had not adopted her she would have died here. At least she has some kind of chance with you." Unbelieveable!!!

In doing some investigating, I found 2 other of his foals delivered to the US. had died shortly after arriving to their homes and were ill Before they left Canada. I also spoke with 2 individuals who had extremely sick foals, beside myself.

This Ranch and it's owner are without conscience!! He didn't even Report my filly to Naeric, or the fact that she existed!! I think he felt she would not survive anyway.

After a long, long hard road with her, I have a healthy yearling, but she is stunted in growth due to all her trials.

If you do not want your heart broken, or be financially stressed to the max don't even consider getting a horse from this place!!

There are plenty of legitamate rescues out there who will provide you with a 'Healthy' Horse to love and enjoy!!

I would like to respond to the negative statements made against Brad Meggison. On 12/10/04 we took delivery of an App mare named SOX. She arrived after nearly five days of traveling from Manitoba to the northeast coast of Maine in perfect health and in excellent condition. We have nothing to benefit by responding to this rip off web site. We have never met Brad or Corrine, have no personal or professional relationship with them but have found them both to be very helpful in arranging a safe and reasonable transport for our mare to reach us in extremely great condition. We would not hesitate to purchase another horse from avalonapps.com.

I, personally know this Individual, and I must say that she continues to try and Defend those who would Abuse and Neglect these Animals. "Personally Angela, the care and Defense of Animals Counts Upstairs--at Least I know that I have tried to save them from this treatment--have you?" Not only does She Defend Brad Meggison, But also The 'Ropin R' or 'Wanderlust', as it is now known. The Ropin R, owned by Dana Roper in Greenville, South Carolina is in direct league with Avalon Appaloosas and Brad Meggison. She Aides in placing his 'By Product Of the PMU Industry', which are the innocent Foals. For this, she receives a "Bonus" either in Cash or in Foals and PMU Mares. This is just not one incident with one foal, Many Died in Their owners Arms---I was lucky because after months of care and corrective therapy, my Filly from Brad Meggison, survived. I have named her "Miracle B Eclipse". And a Miracle, SHE is! These people are extremely dishonest! I paid for, as well as others, for a Registration and a NEARIC Micro chip to be placed in My Filly for tracking purposes, should she ever be stolen. It was never done and I telephoned NEARIC about this. They Didn't Even Have The Stallion of My Filly on their files!! And he never had her registered. Ask Mr. Meggison why he has been cut from the PMU Industry, Why Naeric, and Wyeth Labs have shut him out of the Industry. It is due to his shady business practices and the condition of his animals! He has cheated many people out of their money, and during thesed tragedies, remains non-commital, defesive, and keeps all the money anyway!! If ANYONE Doubts this at all, feel free to Email me. I HAVE PICTURES! "A picture is worth a thousand words"

Happy With Brad Meggisons PMU Foals!

I just ran across this report and I'm very familiar with the incident and person who filed the complaint who has maliciously spread these rumors and others throughout the internet. I bought a PMU foal from Brad Meggison of Avalon Appaloosas in 2001, and then again purchased a mare and a foal in 2002. I've been nothing but happy with any transactions made with Brad and would not hesitate to do business with him again. I still own both the 2001 and 2002 PMU's I bought from him and they are wonderful mares. I have seen several loads of these foals in person as they arrived here in the US and I in fact have personally visited Brad Meggisons farm in Canada where I have never seen any kind of animal abuse or neglect taking place. Brad cares tremendously about his horses and it shows. There are many, many people who are very happy with their PMU foal purchases and this person was just one case. With the number of foal and the nature of their sales and transport being so stessful you are bound to have a sick one every now and then. I'm sorry this person had to be the one with a sick foal, but to turn it into a vendetta is just too much. There are story after story after story of sick PMU foals coming down to the states...it happens everywhere. These foals are weaned from their mothers, piled into trucks.. sometimes this is one simultaneous occurance. Travel very long distances and then have to deal with weather and allergen differences from where they came from to their new homes. If you want to be against something, be against the PMU industry in itself instead of taking it out on the farmer. Thank you!

We need to speak up for these animals that cannot defend them selfs

I am glad to hear you purchased one of these foals and saved its life, I am also sorry for the problems you encountered. People all over need to be educated on the pmu issue. There is a website called The fund for horses that can help with this matter and also tell people what they can do to stop the slaughter of horses. Nov 1 2003, that sinikka crosland of tracs in canada was advised by wyeth that they would provide sanctuary for the mares and foals that they are now releasing from the PMU farms. what is actualy happening to these mares and foals is they are being sold for slaughter. The farmers have recieved payments for the care and vet treatment to cover a year and are not using it for the care of horses. We need to speak up for these animals that cannot defend them selfs and this web site will tell you how. Good luck to you and again thank you for your part. Please pass the info to anyone you know. A fellow horse lover
