Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We purchased a puppy from Christy Brown at Brown's Big Babies in February.  I wanted a pure White Malamute, we had purchased a Red Malamute and I wanted her to have a playmate.  I initially thought it odd that one breeder had a high number of pure white malamutes, as they are extremely rare, but was excited that I had found one, so we arranged for her to be shipped to us as soon as she was old enough.

When I picked her up at the airport, she was terrified, but I thought this was just due to the stress of being transported.  When we introduced her to the other puppy, our neighbor was standing nearby and we were all shocked that she became extremely vicious when we put the puppies together.  She lunged at her barking and growling, we immediately seperated them and decided to slowly introduce them later.  They have since become close to eachother, but will fight over food and toys.  She also had an overbite, that was mentioned on the Health certificate that accompanied her, but the breeder denied knowing about.  I was more concerned that we seemed to have issues with her not learning the potty training regime.  She seemed so scared and would always soil her crate and didn't show any signs that it bothered her, which was very unusual.

As she grew we started to notice that her appearance did not resemble the malamutes we were accustomed to seeing.  She had a longer, pointier nose, her ears were larger, floppier, her fur was smoother, shorter and her tail hung down and didn't curl up and over.  Even our Vet noticed these differences and suggested we have a DNA test performed - we contacted the AKC and sent them a sample only to find out that we needed to use a different lab.  So, I decided to have the Vet check into it and we performed the test through through the vet.  The results came back that this dog was a mixture of Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky!

I then called the State of Missouri's department of Agriculture and was told that Brown's wasn't even registered or liscensed with them and that by law, if there were more than 3 intact females breeding for sale, they must register in the State of Missouri!  With all this information I contacted Christy and told her that this was considered interstate fraud and we wanted our money back.  She was extremely hostile and denied my findings.  I told her that the test was legitimate and that I would give her until this weekend to send me our refund or I would have to contact the attorney general in the State of Michigan and file Interstate Fraud charges.  She told me basically to "Go To H@!!"  So, I am filing this report and proceeding to the next level.  I have a contract and all the documentation stating I was sold a Pure Bred Malamute and I wasn't!

Buyer beware when dealing with this woman, she doesn't care about anything but the money!  It is obvious!

She once told me to tie the dog out until she went to the bathroom, this is not the way to train a dog!  I was shocked and extremely displeased with her ideas of how to train and treat an animal.

Purchase from Brown's Big Babies

I have purchased two Alaskan Malamute puppies from Christy over the last year (2014-2015).  I can t even begin to tell you how wonderful these dogs are... or how much I enjoy having them.

The older one, a very large woolie boy, is an absolute gentle giant - he loves people of all sizes and ages (and they flock to him).  His younger sister, as I call her (although not from the same parents), has a standard coat and is the sweetest cuddler ever - she gives out kisses to every person and dog she meets.  I get numerous compliments on them every time we go out. They are both active, intelligent, healthy and have wonderful dispositions.

I have owned a Malamute before and can tell you that these pups have all of the wonderful and amazing attributes characteristic of the breed.  I will certainly be looking to purchase from Christy/Brown s Big Babies again when it comes time for my next sweet Malamute pet.

Since I first wrote this complaint, Christy Brown offered to trade our dog for another one, but I would have to pay for transportation both ways.  When I confronted her with the DNA Results, she then offered me $900 but only if I shut up and not only signed a "Gag Order" but a statement that would essentially say she was not in the wrong.  She said if I signed, she would make payments to me.  The problem is, by signing anything claiming she did nothing wrong, I would be giving her an out.  She could and would use this to say she didn't owe me a dime because I agreed she did nothing wrong.

I have given her ample opportunities to settle outside of the court system, but she has stopped communicating with me now.  I even agreed to an arbitrator, which would allow her to keep her credit in good standing, because even if an arbitrator agreed with me, she would not have a judgement against her.  A judgement could ruin her chances of selling dogs in the future, and ruin any chances of her getting a job if she cannot breed.

I have also found that She uses several Kennel Clubs to register her dogs, which I was told is a red flag.  AKC said that a breeder will go to another Kennel Club if they are rejected by AKC, this way they can say their dog is registered even if it isn't a pure breed or meets standard.  In her case, she uses Continental Kennel Club, whose standards are very loose.  They do not require DNA samples, they do not require pedigree or proof of such.  They accept the word of the Breeder only.  It is harder to prove a dog is a pure breed if they have a pedigree filled with holes.

My dog had aggressive tendencies when we first brought her home at 8 weeks, and they are becoming more and more pronounced as she gets older...despite training and having an extremely loving family (We have never hit or neglected this dog), she is getting so dangerous we now have to keep her from our other dog!  She recently charged our other dog, unprovoked and bit her in the ear leaving a puncture wound!  They were playing nicely, then she suddenly turned on her.  There were no toys to fight over, no food to fight over - absolutely no reason for the behavior.

It has been suggested by a trainer, the Humane Society and our Vet that if we may have to put her down...  They believe this dog inherited some very aggressive traits from her lineage...  I am distraught over this, Christy knew how we had been hurt before, and our family loves this dog, but she does not have the traits that Malamutes were bred to have, gentle loving big dogs...
