On July 20, 2017, last summer I paid Bruce Barry $250.00 for a print he would have made for me of a painting he said he had created.
Bruce Barry showed me a picture of the painting on his phone, called "Yellow Horse". The painting was done in connection with the promotional work Bruce Barry is doing for a Canadian film called "Indian Horse" produced by Richard Wagamese, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in the Autumn of 2017.
I paid for the print in advance, by Interac email to Bruce Barry's email address: [email protected]. I have emailed Mr Barry a number of times at the same address asking when I could expect to hear the print was ready. He has replied once, a couple of weeks after the payment, to say he would pick up the print in Edmonton.
Bruce Barry has not replied to any of my emails since that time. I have dropped in on him at his residence and atelier in November, 2017 to say that if he does not get the print ready for me by November 20th, I want my money back. He has done neither. I now understand, 6 months later, that I have to go to the expense of suing him. I begin to doubt that he ever intended to use the money I paid him for the purpose.

By way of update in June 2019 I can say I haven't received the artwork I commissioned, my payment has not been returned, but over the two years since this happened I have come to believe that Mr Barry did not likely intend to rip me off, and that there are complexities to Mr Barry's relationship with the world, which I do not understand.
