CAMCO trying to collect on a 13 yr debt from California that isn't mine! Advice please? Ripoff! Rockford Illinois
I never heard of this company before they called me last December offering to settle an account that was 13 years old from California. I do not think it is my debt! They say that they bought this debt from Bank of America and they now have legal rights to collect on it.
Last December, they offered me a 'generous settlement' of about $250 on a $750 debt. At first, I gave them permission to start taking $25.00 a month out of my checking account. When I wised up and started searching for info on these 'people', I found your site and immediately told them to cancel my permission and they did NOT have my say so to withdraw money from my account. Now, after two months, they are calling and sending letters again, only this time their settlement is $500. I have a signed "affidavit and assignment" letter from them dated in Dec.
What can I do to get these people to leave me alone? What steps do I need to take? Any and all help/advice/information is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your site!!
