Yes, you must close your bank account! They have your routing numbers located on your check. To take your money, all a company has to have is the information located on your check.
There are thousands of victims who've contacted the Rip-off Report stating, even though they stopped payment of their check after reading the Rip-off Report, the credit card company still got their money and they will keep on doing it until you close your account.
I suggest you send copies of some Rip-off Reports to the credit card company, or direct them to the web site while on the phone with them. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Make sure you tell them to click on the links at the end of any of those reposts!
Contact all your creditors that use your account for payment with your new account information.

Here's an update on what happened to me.
I sent my check in for $39.00 on 03/28/02 and called the bank on 04/08/02 to find out if the check had cleared it hadn't yet so I stopped payment on the check.
Now what I need to know is, do I really need to close my account or is there a way I can tell the bank to not to authorize anyone from taking money out of my account.
I do have AOL that takes money out every month for membership.
I don't know what to do.
