History: April 2000 called Capital One to ask if the interest rates on my card could be lowered. Request was declined. Performed a payment over the phone with Customer Service representative to pay off the account in full and asked rep to CLOSE MY ACCOUNT.

May 2000 Capital One credit card statement arrives showing a balance due ($29.00+) for Late Payment Fee, prior month. Called Capital One again. Spoke to supervisor and explained that I should not have a late payment fee, when I paid the balance in full and asked to CLOSE MY ACCOUNT. Supervisor said he would reverse the Late Fee and then (when account had a Zero Balance) he would CLOSE it per my request.

June 2000 More Late Payment Fees and interest charged on the previous balance. Called again AND wrote my first letter of complaint. And so it went on for month, after month after month until I moved (in July 2002).

This account was sent to Collection. I DISPUTED and believed it was settled. Then 2 years later, apparently the account was SOLD to another collection agency and they Re-Opened the receivable with my current address I DISPUTED. They offered to reduce the debt to half I DECLINED. If I had made purchases with the credit card, I would pay for it. But this is NOT A LEGITIMATE DEBT.

These charges were BOGUS late fees on top of late fees and interest on top of interest for late fees that were ILLEGALLY charged to my account.

Now I have written directly to the Big 3 Bureaus myself and hope for some solution to come about.
