CASHNET EXPRESS Called me and told me I owed money from a cash advance that I never received and that I was going to be arrested if not paid. Internet
I received a voicemail from a private number today and the voicemail was very hard to understand because of the man's thick foreign accent. He said it was urgent that I call him back, so I returned the call to 951-707-4047. I spoke to a lady there also with a thick foreign accent and hard to understand. She preceded to explain to me something about a cash advance that I owed from Cashnet Express, I had never heard about this company let alone a cash advance from them. She also started to read an affidavit, when I was disconnected. I returned the phone call and started to explain that I knew nothing about this. She then said that I was going to be served with an affidavit and have to go to the court listed on the affidavit to settle this matter. She said the initial amount owed was $300, but with attorneys fees and such it was over $800. I then said okay, and hung up.

It has become clear from numerous reports of this scam, that the scammers have come into posession of a large amount of personal information, including names, addresses, phone numbers, references, bank acct. numbers and social security numbers. Most of those reporting the scam indicate that at some time in the past, they filled out an online loan application. My guess is that these scammers have obtained (most likely illegally) a large database of this personal info.
While these particular scammers are only using the info to try to make themselves appear to be a legitimate collector, that does not mean they couldn't sell the info to some other criminal when they are done with it. The amount of information they are revealing on these phone calls is enough to allow anyone to steal your identity.
If you've received one of these scam calls, you should consider your identity to be at risk. I highly recommend going to the FTC's identity theft website and taking the precautions outlined there :
