Ordered an Alaskan Toy Eskimo puppy from this breeder. Dog was received by plane on 10/10 and fell gravely ill on 10-13. Had Coccidia worms and PARVO. He spent his last 3 nights at the Animal Hospital on died overnight 10/16-10/17.

Vet and information information online indicates that both conditions take 7-13 days from exposure to onset of illness which would place exposure sometime between 10/1 and 10/6 before the puppy was shipped to us.

The breeder offered to replace the puppy but that is illogical to take another potentially exposed animal from the same breeder as well as the fact that the Parvo virus can remain in a home for up to 12 months, meaning any new pet brought in, especially a small puppy would be immediately exposed (one would think an 'expert' breeder would know that).

We requested financial refund of cost of dog, shipping and vet bills but were denied.

Cedar Retreat Kennels reacted to my concern about ill puppy to my full satisfaction. They offered to replace the puppy for my son after a period to make certain the Parvo was not still present. There have been no Parvo cases that I'm aware of with this breeder before or since.

This has got to be the most irresponsible report I have seen in a long time. I usually don't comment, but this was beyond my capability to be quiet. Apparently, you have ABSOLUTELY no idea how parvo works. If your puppy came by plane on the tenth, and didn't become sick until the thirteenth-or lets give you the benefit and say it got sick the twelfth and you took it to the vet on the thirteenth like the "informed and responsible" pet owner you must be-did you ever once think that either another transported animal or something in your environment infected this pup? ACTUALLY, parvo has no preferences on how long it takes to infect a puppy. Puppies are extremely succeptible to this disease because of the dreaded "window of opportunity". You've heard of that because you've done your research, right? Doubt it. Window of opportunity is the time period between when mommy's antibodies instilled in the pup during the first 24 hours of life wear off, and when a vaccination is given. A vaccination will NEVER be effective until mommy's antibodies have worn off, and short of extremely expensive testing, no one knows when that will be. MOST ALL PUPS BECOME SUCCEPTIBLE.That window of opportunity varies between every pup in every single litter. The window of opportunity is between 3 and 26 weeks of age. I happen to know for a fact that this breeder offered a replacement pup to you and in YOUR "expert" opinion, you denied. I checked with them and they faxed me written proof!! What say you?? If you would ask for an older pup, you would be guarenteed one free of parvo. Get it?? I can't believe such uninformed people have the PRIVILEGE to own a living being!

We shopped & inquired (online and via phone) and then ordered an Alaskan Toy Eskimo puppy from this breeder. Dog was received by plane on 10/10 and fell gravely ill on 10-13. Had Coccidia worms and PARVO. He spent his last 3 nights at the Animal Hospital on died overnight 10/16-10/17. Vet and information information online indicates that both conditions typically take 7-13 days from exposure to onset of illness which would place exposure sometime between 10/1 and 10/6 before the puppy was shipped to us. Our Animal Hospital veterinarian here locally believes the dog was shipped sick, and also thinks the vaccination spacing as per the records was suspect in that the shots for Parvo were close together, fueling speculation that the breeder knew they had a problem and were trying to stay ahead of it. The breeder offered to replace the puppy but that is illogical to take another potentially exposed animal from the same breeder as well as the fact that the Parvo virus can remain in a home for up to 12 months, meaning any new pet brought in, especially a small puppy would be immediately exposed (you would think an expert' breeder would be knowledgeable about those facts).
