I have had my Providian/Wamu card for nearly 5 years. My due date has never been before the last day of the month. I got in the habit of getting online at the end of the month to make my payment every month.

Last month it was a day earlier than it had ever been, on the second to last day of the month. I found that strange, but remembered that Chase had just bought the card out. So I got online on the 29th this month and found that my due date was even an additional day earlier being on the 3rd to last day of the month, the 28th.

So I call Chase and get a lady on the phone that seemed nice enough. I am completely willing to pay my due when a payment is late or I over charge my account. But I explained to her that in 5 years of having a card, my due date had never been this early. She read her script like a saint and refused to budge so I asked for a supervisor. A guy that seemed nice enough came on the phone and explained to me that it was impossible for him to overturn a late fee that was "legitimate" and that he could not correct it as a bank error because they made no error. I asked him if they could not do it as a courtesy and he said the only courtesy they could offer would be setting up automatic payments for me, like I'm some sort of moron.

I was very frustrated at this point and simply asked him to cancel my account. He didn't even blink. He said, "ok, account is cancelled. Did you have any other questions, Mr. Steele." I just laughed and hung up. What a wonderful way to value and appreciate your customers.

They are a bunch of money grabbing jerks. I have had nothing but problems with these people. STAY AWAY!

As was mentioned before, I always had a due day of the 1st of the month. I never had a problem with WAMU but when Chase took over they changed the day. The first time I was running close to the 1st so I paid in person. The next month I paid online like I usually do and saw that the due date had changed so I paid that day and called to inquire. They told me the date changed because the cycle changed to a 25 day billing cycle. I asked to be put back to a due date at the begining of the month and they complied. To this point I had paid late twice. My june payment reflected a late fee and I paid them on time. July's payment was significantly higher so I inquired and saw that they put me at the default rate. I called and tried to get that reversed and got the same thing where they couldn't do anything. I asked for a supervisor who they wouldn't put me through to so I asked how I could get this reversed. The CSR would tell me they couldn't do anything and I asked again how I could get this reversed. The CSR then stated he couldn't help me and discontinued the call, even after I said wait, and then I got the pre-recorded thank you message. I called back to complain about being hung up on and they put me through to the Philippines. I told the CSR the story of how they told me the billing cycle changed which changed the due date and she said the billing cycle has always been 30 to 35 days, definitely not what they told me before. The CSR there was nice but still couldn't help me and assured me it would take no less than 6 months to revert back to the original APR. The CSR gave me an address to write to them. I believe they changed the due dates for just that purpose, to make people late. I also think they did change the billing cycle to justify changing the due dates. I vaugly remember seeing a 25 day billing cycle on line or in a statement and then for them to say it was never so really makes me believe they are up to no good. I guess WAMU couldn't make it because they acted in the best interest of the customer and not in an unethical cut throat manner like Chase. The experts said on TV that the Credit Card companies would find ways to make up the billions lost in late fees and here you have it.

Chase did the same thing to me! They arbitrarily changed my payment due date and then said I was late and charged me $39.00. They also found a way to eliminate my home equity loan through TransUnion Consumer Relations credit reporting agency. They charged me twice for late payment, and I have proof through my checking account that I was not late. I spent hours talking to their people, supervisors, even the manager of my local Wamu, who put me in touch with someone she knew who assured me they would take care of the problem. These people will not look at my checking and equity account together. If they did they would plainly see the dates of the payments I made. I must admit, they wore me down. I don't know what else to do, but I do know this should be illegal. I thought about going to small claims court, but I can't even get an address to send legal proceedings. It's as if these two accounts are totally unrelated, managed by two different companies, and I'm quite sure that's how they want it. I want nothing more to do with Chase, ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, after reading all of these rip-off with Chase I'm starting to get really mad... I just had the same thing happen to me that happened to you.... BUT I've had my card for 12 years with no late payment. They would not change anything. I was even willing to pay for the late fees, but asked them to put my interest rate back to where it was. They jacked it up to 17% from 3.99%... They told me to call back in 6 month and then they would try to work with me... HA! It makes me so mad. They said the same thing to me... We can cancel your account... This is horrible for your credit rating... It wipes all the credit that I've built up with them all these years. I called bad business... and they will no longer get any of mine... I own my own business, and you ALWAYS help your good customers out!!!
