We purchased a split rail fence with wire mesh installed by Ace Fencing. The guy supervising the job was Chris Keller, he is either the owner or co-owner of the company. The day of installation, 23 days after I was told it would be installed, I was not home when they arrived. Chris Keller became angry and yelled at my mom because I wasnt there. He started the fence in the wrong place and when she corrected him Chris Keller blew up at her, asking how she would know anything and if I showed her where it was supposed to be. She told him I didnt show her but I explained it to her that the fence was to start at the back corner of the house, go straight to the sidewalk and straight down the sidewalk to the bushes at the end of our property line. Two straight lines! How easy is that!? She asked him if he had the measurements he took at the initial meeting but he just kept on yelling and cussing and she heard him on the phone using profanity to describe her to someone. She went in the house to call me. My husband arrived at that time and Chris Keller then directed his rage at him. He refused to show my husband with a tape measure the distance the fence was supposed to be (probably because he didnt have the measurements). I was not aware that I HAD to be there the entire time because I never received a copy of the contract and therefore hadnt read the terms and conditions. As if that wasnt enough

Chris Keller required cash at the time of installment. Pretty shady business practice! When I offered him a check (because I rushed home to be there and didnt make it to the bank to get cash) he said he was too busy working and didnt have time to go to the bank. Throughout the installment time (~4 hours) I often looked out the window to see Chris Keller sitting in his pickup. Maybe three times he was talking on the phone. The rest of the time he was just sitting there. Only once was he not sitting in his truckinstead he was using my water and water hose to spray water on a bird.

Now about the quality of workthe wood part of the fence is fine.

The wire looks awful. Chris Keller didnt remove the mounds of dirt at the bottoms of the posts. Instead he just placed the wire around the mounds causing it to bow out and causing the fence to be wavy along the bottom.

In two places the roll of wire ended and another roll was started in the middle of a panel, instead of behind a post where it wouldnt show. It was overlapped and looks so sloppy.

There is about a 10 wide gap between the wire and the post at the side of our house. There is a hedge there. Instead of knocking on the door and asking what I wanted them to do about it (because I was home!) they just cut the roll of wire and left the gap. I would have gladly trimmed the hedge so they could have continued with the wire all the way to the end, making it look not so lame. I later found out that my husband had already told them to cut the hedge. When he told Chris Keller to cut the hedge, his workers started cutting it but Chris Keller told them to stop. The woman at the office of Ace Fencing said that Chris Keller told her that my husband did not tell him to cut the hedge.

The wire shows above the top rail of the fence. Its not supposed to be that way because it will get crumpled in time and look even worse.

The wooden gate that was installed looks like it was assembled using scrap lumber found in a dumpster. My husband has already fixed that a little bit.

We have a lot of work ahead of us fixing the wire. Im not even sure if it will ever lay flat since it has been bent around mounds of dirt. I asked for my money back for the wire installation (a mere $100) but Chris Keller said NO. He offered to fix one of the panels where the wire was overlapped but I wont allow him back on my property after the way he spoke to my family. He is not taking responsibility for his lousy work or standing behind his contract (which I finally got a copy of) of which the very first line states "Ace Fencing stands behind our work". He is blaming me for the terrible job he did on the wire, as if I were the one who did it. He told the woman at the office that I got cheap wire. Well, he described to me the kind of wire to get, where to get it and how much to expect to pay, and thats what we did.

The way he just went off on my mom and husband was inexcusable.

#3REBUTTAL Owner of company

Rebeaca Rodgers 128 barclay lane cherryhill nj 08034The first lie is she claims she purchased a split rail fence with wire mesh, that is incorrect. She did not purchace wire from ace fencing nor is it on the contract, she only purchased the wooden split rail fence. The night before the scheduled installation she notified our office that she purchaced her own wire from home depot and insisted we install it to the split rail.We gave her a price of $100 additionally added to the contract balancefor the wire to be attached. The second lie,we were not 23 days late,in fact the contract was signed on 7/27/09,2-4 weeks was written for the completion date which puts the time around August 27th 2009 (4 weeks) the job was completed on 9/2/09 6 days past the date however, also in our contract we are not responsible for weather related delays in the installation, there was numerous rain days thoughout this time period.Third lie,Ms. Rodgers knew she had to be home its on the policy paper she signed with the contract, and she was reminded by the secretary days prior to the install and she confirmed she would be home the night before when she was contacted again. When the workers arrived they knocked on the door and her mother was there,we asked if she could come out and go over the fence lines, she answered and came out with a big attitude yelling that "dont you have the measurements written down!"The installer replied that we always go over it again before the fence goes in and this is way we confirmed that her daughter would be home, she then yelled back"we aint supposed to be here on a wed. or thurs! At that point,we just stopped the conversation. We contacted Ms.Rodgers and her husband on their cell phones. Her husband showed up a 1/2 hr. later, he couldnt stay for long and had to leave.Absolutely was no profanity used in any manner in any way,if a situation escalates that far,we will pack up and leave the property. We advised Ms. Rodgers that she had to come home since there was issues and thats what the original agreement was,we do not work on properties without the homeowner home.Ms. Rodgers gave a big attitude with "cash for final payment"it is clearly listed on the contract and Ms. Rodgers knew this and was reminded days before, another lie.Furthermore,it is none of Ms. Rodgers concern what i am doing in my truck, theworkers were there installing her fence. The fact that she was complaining about us using her water shows what kind of cheap penny-pinching person we are dealing with.We had to use her water to water down the mounds of dirt around the poles that she was complaining about. Then Ms. Rodgers claims in her complaint that the wood part of the fence is fine its the wire she has a problem with. The wood part is what she purchased from me.No where on her contract does it say "wire".She and her husband were being cheap and instead of paying an additional $400 like they were told when they signed the job for my wire they decided to go to home depot the night before and purchase the cheapest wire they could find along with the cheapest staples to attach it.Ms. Rodgers wanted quality wire she should have purchased it from us a professional fence company like she did the wood. The complaints that she lists,we addressed that day the wavy-ness cannot be corrected because as soon as you pull the wire slightlt to strighten it all the squares will stretch out of shape. This is what happens when you buy cheap wire and its unrolled, she needed to buy "welded wire"which is what we told her, which can be pulled and straightened tightly without damage. Her issue with one piece of wire connecting to the other we told her we would fix it when the job was completed, but we had to finish first to make sure she had enough wire for the rest of the fence. We tried to fix it that day and she told us just to leave it alone.About the hedge issue, her husband did not want us to cut the bush,we were trimming it and he said "dont hack the bush"so we had one worker pushing the bush back out of the way as best as we couldwhile the other workers were strugglingto attach the cheap wire with her cheap staples. Please note,it is aloso in out contract that "Ace fencing is not responsible for any shrubbery or bushes,it is the customers responsibility to supply a clear fence line.Again Ms.Rodgers doesnt understand if you buy crappy material theres only so much you can do with it, it will always be crappy. The wooden gate is made of 3/4 thick dowel constructed spruce fencing, wood has splits and cracks that just the way wood is.The fact that she makes all these complaints but in the same sentence says doesnt want us to fix it shes contradicting herself. She expects us to refund her $100 for the wire installation, did our workers work and installing her wire and paper  thin staples then it did to install the wood. Our company lost money on the wire installation, therefore there can be no refund.Again, the wire is not on the contract and all her complaints revolve around her wire she bought. We did not want to install the wire which she was told the night before, however,we tried to satisfy our customer by agreeing to it and this is the result.Ms. Rodgers is just a miserable person, whos cheap and is only out to cause aggravation by slandering my business because shes an unhappy person. Her boss was giving her a hard time for having to leave work that day and now it seems that shes directing her anger towards my company

Ace Fencing, Blackwood NJ, Chris Keller - is not an ace, don't let him anywhere near your place!

I forgot to mention the wood part of the fence. We paid for a 3' fence. Chris Keller asked my husband how high he wanted the posts. What? I thought there was a standard height for a 3' fence...3'! That's what we paid for but not what we got. The 3' wire we got shows over the top rail of the fence. Where's my other 2 inches of fence?!?! And another thing about the rails, they don't all face the same direction. Genious (Chris Keller) installed them with the pointed side in where the wire was supposed to connect (another reason the wire looked so bad) and the flat sides out, mostly. Just enough were the opposite to make the wood part of the fence look bad too. The more we work on fixing it the more things we find that were either stupid on Chris Keller's part or done on purpose. Neither would surprise me. But seriously, I doubt any professional fence installer would lay claim to the job he did, but he put up a sign! We are on a street with a ton of walkers and joggers and bikers. So many people have already seen what I wrote on the sign.
