On Nov. 30th I did receive (finally) a phone call from a man Matt Stevenson, the apparent owner of Christian Brothers Plumbing. (One of them at least). He said he did not teach or coach these types of behavior to his employees, and that he runs a stand up company. I asked if $659 PCV (pressure control valve) on a simple hose bib was what he meant. He stood behind the just plain stupidly overpriced figure with glee. I said, "OK, $100 to come out, $100 for the part, $200 for the 25-40 min. hourly fee and another $100 just for giggles. "your still not at the $659!!!" "Your not even at the $556 Value price!!" He stood by the price. He then on my request called Mike Gomez into the office for a conference call. They phoned me up and had a little meeting with me. I was told by Mike Gomez that he had a faulty meter... I said "how long have you been a Plumber", he said 37 years.. I said and you don't carry a back-up? He said no... I said what about your quote? he said it included work out by the water meter. I said that's funny, there is nothing on my written quote about that. He said "i made a mistake there. I said, "why did you not go next door and meter my home to make sure of the reading? He said, "maybe I should have". I then asked if he worked on commission. He said "yes", I said I know.. I asked if he still had the faulty meter? He said "no" he threw it away... I said, of course you did. He then rethought it and said he had it. I asked to have it mailed to me. Well he showed up later that day, and handed me an envelope and the packaged meter. I opened the meter and in front of my contractor, placed it on the hose bib in question, guess what, yes, it metered 65lbs. Perfectly normal. Ladies and gentleman, this is a company that condones fraud and tactics not becoming of an ethical operation. The failure to fire the person in question, Mike Gomez for not one, but several questionable problems associated with this service call is evidence of that. As far as the envelope, I was hoping my $31 for the sales spiels and overpriced quote was in there, I thought under the circumstance that would of been a classy move by the owner in question. I was wrong, just the note of apology for the mistakes, The money grab was officially on. Use Jewish Brothers, Muslim Brothers, LDS Brothers or Catholic Brothers, but PLEASE stay away from Christian Brothers, as long as you don't want to be ripped off.
