Store promised a free $100 Gift Card with purchase of a TV valued at $1500 or more. I purchased a 53" Sony HDTV for $1830. The Salesman then stated that I was not eligible for the free Gift Card because the TV was an OPEN BOX special. When I told him I didn't want the TV, he finally agreed to give me the free Gift Card, but stated he would have to ring up the four year extended warranty separately. Although that confused me, I agreed.

When I got home, I realized what took place. The salesman actually SOLD me a $100 Gift Card on one transaction without me knowing, then redeemed it on the second transaction to trick me into thinking I got my free Gift Card.

I went back to the store the following day (December 02, 2002) and demanded a full refund for everything I purchased, which totaled $2411.55. The clerk stated that since I paid by check, I would have to wit 10 to 15 business days to receive the refund in the mail. It is now January 4, 2003 and I still do not have it my refund.

I have spoken to the store manager, who stated that corporate sent it to the wrong address. He further stated that corporate will FEDEX a new check on Monday, Decemebr 30 and that I would definitely have it by January 1, 2003. Since I didn't receive it, I went to the store on january 3, 2003 to try to get a cash refund. The manager on duty stated that they did not have enough cash in the store to give me my money.

As a result, I am still waiting. No one will help!!!!

TV below regular cost, & they have to 'charge' you for the gift card

They treat Open Box Buys differently, because of the lower than retail prices on them. I've bought some OB pc items from CC, and not been eligible for rebates, with the store marking the items down to a price below what a new one with the rebate would have been. That's probably why they said you couldn't get the gift card. With the gift card, as with some of the other promotions they do, they mark down the price of the big item by the value of whatever you get (gift card, camer bag...) then 'sell' you the free items. It's how they control inventory. I bought a $449.99 TV from them, and got a free $50 gift card. If you look at the receipt, it shows the TV was $399.99, and I 'bought' a $50 gift card. As to the warranty on a different receipt, they probably did that so you could use the $100 gift card to pay for part of the warranty. My parents found that out when they bought a TV and stand...the salesperson rang up the TV, on one receipt, and the stand on the other, and used the gift card to pay for the stand. It's all in the way their computer system handles it. I DO agree that the ball was dropped in refunding your money though. No excuse for that.
