Classic International Inc. increased charges after contract signing, did not cover my belongings with extra insurance, payment type changed after movers took possession of items and several household items missing at the delivery date.

Initially Classic International offered me a cost estimate that included everything necessary to move from Denver, Colorado to Anchorage, Alaska, with the exception of extra insurance for household belongings and extra cost beyond my allotment of volume (volume, not weight, is how they charged for my move). After movers took possession of my household items, the office personnel from Classic called and said I owe $750 more for packing material used to wrap my furniture. There was no mention of this charge until they called me after the pickup day.

I was also initially told I could use a credit card to pay for the moving service. This was changed after the pickup of my items. When the company called and demanded $750 for packing material, they also wanted me to send the remaining balance right away by cash, check or wire transferee. They would hold my belonging hostage until paid.

When the movers and myself signed papers on the pickup date, I purchased extra insurance for my items through the company. The sales person I was dealing with at the time of the move charged me 1.5% of claimed value of my goods and informed the driver to write that out on the Bill of Lading. So I purchased $375 for $25,000 coverage. Wouldnt you know, this was later changed to 3% of claimed value after my household goods left my residence. I refused to pay the extra $375 for $25,000 for coverage stating I had a signed contract that guaranties my cost. The company decided it would not submit my paperwork to the insurance company and therefore my belongings were not covered. This left me a bad situation because I had $2500 in damages and lost items to claim. They said it was my fault for not paying the extra $375. I still have yet to see my refund for the $375 I initially paid for insurance or the base insurance amount.

Please, please investigate this company for their fraud and misrepresentation of their services. They are quick to collect money and stagnate at providing service of any kind.

Mike
