Download.com powered by CNET claims that software downloaded from their site is virus and spyware free.

This a LIE !!! Cnet now "wraps"  other companies software with their own installer which is loaded with "partnerware" and recently discovered spyware and trojan viruses.

Example / Evidence : Download the free program Pixel Ruler from download.com It is wrapped in cnets installer (not the developers). It immediately tries to force you install partnerware along with the intended application.  If you go to the developers and directly download, you find no malware, no partnerware, no trojans.

You have the option to do a custom installation and not install this partnerware with Cnets installer, yet even after unselecting all "offers" and opting to only install the intended application CNets installer still adds trojans PUP.Optional.BrowseFox.A and PUP.Optional.LuckyLeap.A

This is FRAUD because they lie and tell you that you are only installing what you selected but in fact they have packaged 2 viruses to steal your information and track your internet movement.  This lie is potentially causing millions of dollars in damages to unsuspecting users each year.

The cost of virus removal is has a national average of $95 to have your computer cleaned professionally after CNet so blatently tries to earn your trust with reassurances of spyware/adware free downloads.

CNet is an internet hazard and can not be trusted any longer. Its a shame a company this large would potentially put your lifes work at risk so they can make a few extra pennies per download.

Shame, shame, shame, on CNet for this greedy and malicious behavior.

Somebody needs to go to jail for this one.
