Cobra Group I was drawn to Cobra because I was brainwashed in my Observation day. Although, slightly brainwashed I had the intelligence to read up on them, they simply sounded too good to be true. All the money you can earn, all the opportunities you can have and one day you can be a successful person. Not only that, everyone was so friendly. I could really fit in here and I had just moved to a new area. Even though I think I have a ?mind of steal? they still managed to penetrate my mind and they do that by the following: 1. Keeping you speaking to positive people 2. Making you feel part of their team 3. Doing ?impacts? on any negative things that have happened so when they happen to you on the field you can think well so and so told me I would be feeling like that so I'll think like he thought. I have to have a good attitude. 4. Working you long hours so you don't have chance to see your friends who will tell you to get out of there. It also helps you not think at all because you're far to tired. 5. Not letting people in prime time speak about things that aren't related to sales. How many times did I have someone come up to me and say: what are you doing? Pitch me! 6. Not having proper breaks for food. Once you screw up your eating patterns you notice how you start to become disorientated. All these ways help to get inside your head to the point (like me) where these people even take over your dreams at night. It is most unpleasant. Figures you will notice are used on boards all the time. How much money YOU will be earning. But how many people REALLY in that room are going to be earning that money? Think about it? Soon door to door sales will not be around. It will be illegal WHY? Because it's dangerous for these reasons: 1. Dogs ? How many times have you nearly been bitten by a dog? 2. Law of Averages ? You will get taught this 1 in 10 people you pitch will be a sale. But lets look at the law of averages in a different way. How many people will be a rapist that you see? Or a psycho? Think about it? Would you be happy for your sister, girlfriend, boyfriend, son or daughter going to any area in the country and knock on any persons door ALONE? No job is safe but you'd think this job would alert people to this danger? So soon it'll be winter again and be getting dark. You knock on a mans door he says come in and he attacks you? You thought he was going to sign up? Who knows where you are? Is it really safe? How many other dangers can you think of? You see I knew all this before I started but when you are working you don't have time to think. Then I got depressed on weekends, through tiredness and also the realization sinks in. But its so hard to imagine a life away from it. I am writting this in response to all the cobra workers out there who have been brainwashed by the "cobra owners", here are some of the stupid things that are accepted worldwide by cobraites. 1. If you complain about the hours (13 hrs a day 6 days a week) you will be told a, I know exactly how you feel b, a lot of people felt the same way c, basiclly what they found was in order to be successful and run your own business you have to be prepared to put in the hours, they will pay of in the end. This should be prumply followed by a morning meeting just in case you mentioned to anyone else about the extremely long hours. The morning meeting will be about how cobra allows you to retire early so really what you are doing is getting all the hours out of the way at once. 2. If you complain about working commission you will be told a, I know exactly how you feel b, a lot of people felt the same way c, basically what they found was that working commission did not cap their earnings (they dont mention how low they can get). Its teaching you to run your own business like in all business you work your profit out over a week or a month not daily. This should be prumptly followed up by a morning meeting just in case you negged out any of your fellow brainwashees; the meeting will be about the money you make as an owner and you will be told about the 5 people that actually made money that week out of the thousands who didnt. 3. If you complain about never seeing your family or friends you will be told a, i know exactly how you feel b, a lot of people felt the same way c, bassicly what they found was that the sacrific they make now will pay off as they become an owner they will have so much more time on there hands, more than they would have in a normal job (unfortunatly when you get to owenership you are told its your business and if your business needs you 16 hours a day then you should be there 17 hours a day). Again followed prumptly by a morning meeting about how good ownership is and how much time you have on your hands. I think you get the drift basically all the sales techniques they teach you to confuse customers that you laugh about in the morning meetings, are the same techniques they use to make you feel stupid for straying from the flock. SHEEPFACTOR. Owners are just the best people at turning negatives it just sometimes takes a while to realise what they are selling is 80hours a week for an average income of 150 pounds less travel expences of 50 pounds leaves you will a grand total of ?100 per week roughly calulated ?1.25 an hour. You would get more working in sweat shop in zambia at least there the weather is good. I left when i realised i was the customer stupid enough to hang about for 12 months. if you are unfortunate enough to get offered an ob day evaluation with these guys take it for the shere laugh and give them the negatives mentioned above(by the way if you have arms and legs and your mouth works you will fly through your interview and will get offered the job). When they start repeting it word for word run, run as fast as you can from what ever dodgy housing estate they have taken you to. Make sure you get the free breakfast out of them make it expensive and your bus fair home. A SPECIAL NOTE TO G i am really sorry for bringing you to armagh on bank holiday monday filling your head full of crap, however at least you got a laugh and a sub way out of it. I would like to make a special appology to sandy and richard the bullocks, it was only after you left that i realised that Victoria Hobdale was only on the field for 4 weeks, unfortunatly she told us that it took her 8 weeks to get to stage 3 however she still managed to become an owner. YOU DO THE MATHS it means she is running an office without the capability of getting promoted to stage 3. Most people do this in 2 to 3 weeks. She was obviously more tallented fullfulling the needs the VP who promoted her. Making money was obviously not in the forefront of his mind.... To David Esler all the best for the future may you continue to lose a grand a week and be delighted about it because afterall a grand a week is a small price to pay to keep a smug look on your face and to tell everyone "i am the managing director of my own company", unfortunatly you keep forgetting to tell people that you are not allowed to make any decissions for yourself and when your business does become profitable for a few weeks in a year you are not allowed to pay yourself more that a couple of hundred pounds a week so that you can save up to pay your bills in the crap months...You go david keep living the dream............. hope your reign as head brainwasher in Northern Ireland comes to an end soon.
