$285 oil change from Coggin Honda, 11003 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32225

On 5Mar2007 I took my 2002 HONDA ODYSSEY to Coggin Honda for an oil change. After over an hour of waiting a female service personnel (not the SERVICE ADVISOR that received my vehicle) told me that the plug's thread in the oil pan was stripped (cross-threaded). It is interesting that it took an hour to figure that out. A stripped thread should be noticed immediately when removing the plug. Also the plug did not leak.

To fix the problem Coggin Honda used an Oil drain repair kit. I paid $136 and drove away with new oil. On 8Mar2007 I returned the Odyssey because the kit' leaked. Honda then recommended that they replace the complete oil pan. At a another cost of $434.31. Now I have invested $570 in an oil change. WHAT A COSTLY oil change!

After many letters and calls between me, Coggin Honda and HONDA Inc's customer service I settled for a reimbursement that netted and oil change cost of $285. WHAT A COSTLY oil change!

Commentary: HONDA Inc's customer service tried to convince me that oil-drain-plugs wear out. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!; a car with 103,000 miles would have at most 33 oil changes or 33*2 movements of the plug. I have changed oil in many oil pans, from automobiles, tractors, small engines etc., re-inserting the plug with your fingers never strips the threads. I THINK A NEW HELPER, SEASONED VETERAN (Coggin assured me that their technicians are seasoned veterans) OR UNSEASONED VETERAN USED THE AIR WRENCH TO INSERT THE PLUG. That is; they lied to me when they said the car arrived with a cross-threaded plug.
