This letter is to inform any and all people who have a problem with The College Funding Center. I believe myself and many others may have been defrauded by the College Funding Center. My family was personally swindled out of $1329.72 and I am currently in contact with the District Attorneys office of Plano Texas (The Home office of College Funding Center).

I want to let EVERYONE know that the FTC IS HEADING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against this company. If you wish to become a member of the class call the Federal Trade Comission help line at 1-877-FTC-HELP or go to www.ftc.org

My condolences to anyone who was ripped off by these guys but justice is in the works!!!

Complete Rip Off Joe Mulcahy and Al Barone from College Funding Group

#2Consumer Suggestion

Fri, January 30, 2004

Joel, I, too, was ripped off by Joe Mulcahy and Al Barone from College Funding Group. These people took $995 from me (my situation was I met with them on 5/2/03, the FTC filed the claim against them on 5/7/03, and they charged my credit card on 5/22/03, now this is a scam). They knew precisely that they were stealing from me. I have filed complaints with the Texas Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau (in CT, NH, and TX), the Connecticut Attorney General, and the Federal Trade Commission. Yesterday I received a notice from the Texas Better Business Bureau that the College Funding Group was out of business and I received a notice from the State of New Hampshire (Joe Mulcahy's office location) that they made numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact them and they closed my case. They only way to get any recourse is to contact the Federal Trade Commission (or the Texas Attorney General who will forward your case to the FTC). If you charged their services to your credit card, you will be able to file a dispute with your credit card for a return of funds. If the College Funding Group took a check from you or made withdrawals from your bank accounts, you cannot get any refund unless the FTC is able to recover money for all of the victims that did business with this fraudulent company (trail starts this April). I checked out the Federal Dept. of Education and the IRS websites and apparently there are similar scams by people/companies who prey on parents who need to find funding for their college bound children (and they recommend NOT hiring any companies who claim to be able to secure 100% funding and who guarantee that notion - those are 2 telltale signs that it is a scam). I wish I knew that before Joe Mulcahy and College Funding Group contacted me - I am very embarrased that I was scammed so badly. I will never trust anyone again, I destroy all junk mail that I did not request, I will never purchase services from out-of-state companies, and I won't even take calls from telemarketer's any more. This situation truly changed my life: thanks to Al Barone, Donna Barone (of Texas), Frank Mulcahy, and Joe Mulcahy (of New Hampshire) - I will never trust anyone again.
