I am trying to get out of Sumner Collegeg (formerly College of Legal Arts) as we speak! Many don't know who they are now... they had such a bad rap they actually changed their name to try to swing some new business. Of course I didn't find this out until after I tried to leave...

I was told all through the admission process that the credits earned there would transfer to a four-year college or university. It wasn't until after I had signed some random paperwork that no one explained to me that I found out (by going to several "real colleges" and asking) that they had fed me a bunch of lies, and that NOTHING done at Sumner College is accepted by any regionally accredited (state schools, private four years, etc)... ANYWHERE.

Now they are trying to get me on the hook for several thousand dollars in withdrawal fees and "partial tuition" for the literally, less than two weeks of class that I attended.

I am filing complaints with the BBB, the Attorney General, the Oregon Board of Nursing, and the Department of Education.

They can't keep lying to people and just expect to get away with it! I am going to do everything I can to call them on their lies and see if someone can't get things straightened up down there before they scam any more people.

I would encourage anyone else who's been lied to, misled, ripped off, and stolen from to do the same... report Sumner College (aka College of Legal Arts) to all of the appropriate authorities!

If we all take a stand they'd probably be shut down for such unethical behavior!

As a current practicing Registered Nurse with my MSN, I hate to admit it but this & any other trade schchool is a joke. You can only change the name of the company so many times to try tricking more unsuspecting people out of money but trade schools are just that.... ploys to get top dollar for ripoff educations.  Sadly, people need to do their research! A school with the motto "Get in, get out, get on your way" is ridiculous because any real education takes time, patience & hard work!!!! If it sounds too good to be true, IT IS!  Especially with regards to it's nursing program.  If this school was all that it's cracked up to be then people would quit trying to get into real schools & stop wasting their time in 2 years of pr-req's before entering the actual program which many don't even manage to graduate from!!!

A school that supposedly can help expedite students through is just ridiculous & I would not want to hire or have a nurse take care of my family, friends, or even me with a substandard education.  Not to mention the credits will not transfer at all to real colleges or universities since they do not have to meet the high standards of real education in our country.  Most states require new RN's, meaning before 2012 to have their BSN by 2016-2017 & sadly..... Sumner's credits are not acknowledged by Universities! So these nurses are going to be in quite the pickle despite the huge financal burden they paid into receiving their RN dipolma in the first place.

TISK TISK TISK... I am truly sorry for those who did not do their research & followed the commedrcials, landing eagerly at the financial aid door step of this ripoff institution.  A real school of education doesn't need to spend thousands on late night tv commercials because their product withstands the test of time, & the coursework typically transfers easily into higher levels of academia!! Can't wait for this business to shut down once again.

Bottom line people...... if you want a degree, start with your local community college! Guess what it's even several thousand cheaper!!! Earn a real degree.

Im a student at Sumner College and I did my research on the College too. I found out they have articulation agreements with regionally accredited schools in the area (which according to the Oregon State Board of Nursing is a requirement to become licensed by them). These types of agreements are an officially approved agreement that matches coursework between schools. These are designed to help students make a smooth transition when transferring to a four-year institution, which is what I plan on doing when I finish here. I think this is a great school and everyone is here to help me be successful. No one has ever lied to me about anything here, so Im not sure what you are talking about.
