On January 30, I bought a Connect3D 2GB SD card from Buy.com which was advertised with a $50 rebate. On February 5, I mailed the rebate application. On March 30, I received an email from Connect3D stating that my rebate application had been received and was being processed, and providing a Claim ID and a Web address for checking the status of my rebate.

As of today, the status still shows as "Received, Submission is being processed". However, some time in June, the phone number on the rebate site (408-441-4632, the same as that of Connect3D's US office) was disconnected, and the domain name of its website (connect3d-us.com) is no longer active.

It appears that there is no way to update one's address in the event that one needs to move before the rebates are actually mailed out (if that ever happens). In addition, at http://www.rebate-zone.com/Connect3D, there is a weasel-worded excuse for the delay - it says "Connect3D is currently working on a solution and hopes to pay rebates as soon as possible." Note that they do NOT say that they WILL pay rebates as soon as possible.

Basically, there is no promise that the rebate will be paid, ever. I emailed a complaint to Buy.com and asked them to apply a credit of $50 to my credit card, since they are ultimately responsible, but there was no response. Perhaps they consider the existence of the rebate site showing the rebate as being processed as a reason not to do anything yet - although I think it's likely that this site will eventually be shut down too.
