Consumer Portfolio Services claims that they did not receive some of my payments and subsequently charged more interest.  I have contacted several of their employees trying to remedy this situation. every time I have honored my obligation. Still they say that I owe moe interest. I made a payment to bring my account current and also made an additonal payment to make sure the account current. They stated that the payments were never made and that I now owe a payment for May, payment to replace the payment they never received and interest as well. my payment is $578.00 a month, they want me to pay $1474,85.

My husband & I recently purchased a new vehicle & our finaning is through CPS. My husband was out of work for a while & I had medical debt that should have been covered by our insurance company(ies). Unfortunately, when his previous employer changed insurance companies, I was in the hospital & my stay carried over to the new year. The result was 2 insurance companies bouncing my medical bills back & forth for just over a year, which meant that neither company had to pay the bill. Shortly after that, my husband lost his job. We had savings & he got unemployment benefits while he looked for work. I am physically disabled & unable to work.

Once our savings ran out we filed for bankruptcy so that we could at least afford to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table & utilities paid. Even that was a stretch on unemployment & disability benefits. Thankfully, my husband was rehired by the employer he had prior to the one that let him go. They also bridged his time, which is a blessing, especially since it was his 'original' employer that contracted his old position out to the company that let him go & he had 20 years in with the 'original' employer. All of the above events lead to our credit profiles taking a beating.

A new car was a neccesity for us, not a want after our only vehicle, a 98 Suburban (which had been paid off for 7 years) was totaled. I am hoping that we don't have the same issues that I have read here. Yes, paying on time is very important (which we did before the rug was pulled out from under us), but it is equally important that companies treat their customers with basic, common human decency! Our 1st payment is not due until July & it will be made on time! I am very thankful that I found these threads, because they have given me some foresight. I will be even more vigilant than I typically am in documenting EVERY call, represenative name, time date, etc. whenever I have any contact with CPS.

I will also be scanning & uploading every piece of documentation from them to my laptop & saving to a back up drive as well as keeping the hardcopy (paper) documents. We will do everything we can to ensure that we don't also become victims of deceptive practices, lies & overall shotty customer service. Thank you to everyone who has been brave enough to post their experience here. Hopefully, other new CPS customers will find this information helpful in protecting themselves from a potentially predatory lender & wholly inhumane treatment.

With that said, I know that not everyone has had a negative experience with CPS, as surely they hold more than 196 (the number of complaint threads listed on this site) loans, but that doesn't mean that all or any of the complaints listed here are the result of customers not holding up their end of the contract, though, I'm sure some are just that. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, unless I'm given a reason to be suspicious.

SN: Jim & Robert, good people fall on hard times, but that doesn't make them "deadbeats." And your wholly unnecessary, abusive, demeaning & judmental comments are completely disgraceful. There is never a good reason to be hateful & mean. Correction &/or constructive criticizm is always better received when given in the spirit of being helpful, not hateful. As they old attage goes, If you can't say something nice (or in this case helpful), don't say anything at all! Be mindful of how you treat people, because what goes around comes around & Karma can be your best friend or a real b****, it's totally up to you!
