It all stared 08-01-03, My 1993 Nissan Pathefinder stopped and refused to move in any gear. I called and had the vehicle towed to Cottman. On 8-11-03, I spoke with Manager Ryan, who informed me they hadn't had a chance to look at the vehicle as of yet, but call back after 1:00pm. I did so and was told by Ryan that the transmission was completly gone. Mr. Ryan quoted me a price of $2600.00, I informed Mr. Ryan that I could not afford that price.

Mr. Ryan then quoted me another price of $2100.00, I related to Mr. Ryan that I couldn't afford that price either. Mr. Ryan suggested that I attempt to get financed for the cost of repairs. He gave me a telephone to a Finance Company(Wells Fargo). I attempted but to no avail. On 8-15-03 I again spoke with Mr. Ryan and related that I could not get financing and could not come up with that type of money and that I was going to have the vehicle towed back to my residence. Mr. Ryan then quoted me a third price of $1600.00.

At that time I told Mr. Ryan I was need some time to come up with that the money. Mr. Ryan stated o.k. and then asked for my Social Security number and Driver's Lincense number to put on the paperwork. I gave him the numbers. Two days later I received a message at work that Cottman called and stated my vehicle was ready for pickup. I called Cottman and spoke with Ryan, I asked Ryan who gave them permission to fix my vehicle. Mr. Ryan stated that when I gave him my Social Security number and Driver's Lincese number that gave him permission to repair the vehicle.

Mr. Ryan has continued to be belligirent and uncooperative in this matter. Mr. Ryan has stated I either come in and pay the full price for the vehicle or he is going to ask for the title to my vehicle. I've never verbally or in writing given Cottman or Mr. Ryan permission to repair my vehicle. I've never signed a work order agreement, nor made any down payments for repairs. I've since contacted an Attorney in this matter. Is there a written policy of any Cottman transmission Services nation wide that fixes a customers vehicle with a Social Security number and/or Driver's License number?

If there is please post on this page.

that's funny, if you remove the 7.5% franchise fee from my above post it almost comes up 1600.00, that would explain why ryan's phone number is rolling over to a diffrent cottman center. that rascal probably is not paying his due to hq. (sick him boys} hay tranzman how's it going on the west coast. a message for the vehicle owner post the dollar amount with the court they claim you owe, go there with a sherriff get your car let the judge decide if you owe that amount, chances are if mr ryan's butt is going out the door, he won't be at court to claim his 1600, the new operator won't know didly about your situation, did you fill out the credit app at the store (most centers have the app in house), if so mr ryan was privy to your confidential info. see your lawyer LOL

urgent message for shelita

urgent message for shelita, I just called the phone number for that center, it was transfered to a diffrent cottman center, that was not the phone company turning off there phone for non payment, the home office usually controls the phone numbers [cleaver devils (smile)], that center has some major issues with hq, probably not paying there dues, so hq is putting on the squeeze play, perhaps the center will fold, perhaps hq will send in temp operators, perhaps your vehicle could disapear in the termoil, after all mr ryan will insist that 1600 is his money. you had best check on your car and keep close tabs on it, get some kind of paper work on that vehicle now, the wolves are howling at mr ryans door, heads will roll, i know from experience, i used to take over troubled centers, would go in with my video camera first though, knew better than get caught up in disapearing car acts behind a bad operator. ps, btw if your fluid was still red and very little material in the pan, your torque convertor input splines sheared off, common with pathfinders, = 1 torque convertor, some at fluid and about 9 hours labor, how did he justify dropping the price by 1000.00? at 1600.00 and still making a profit what was really wrong with your transmission? or was there in fact deception in obtaining your permission, and now they are trying to cover there backside? keep us posted

your ss # is authorization

I have not worked at that cottman center, but have worked at others in the past, as well as the beep-beep people, right on their repair orders is 2 sections for authorizatios, the paper work varies from state to state to comply with diffrent laws. the first section is usually to authorize an internal inspection of your transmission, the 2nd is to authorize the total repair costs, both sections have blocks for a customer to sign (in person) they also have sections for the manager to record telephone authorizatios, with a block to document your ss # or dr liscense #, anotherwords confidential info to show proof that you did authorize a repair or inspection for a determined price. after 33 years within the transmission industry,i do not agree with there service policy, the first inspection of the transmission, is a catch to obligate the consumer for a certain dollar amount, usually about 350.00, they know that once hooked for that amount the consumer will then be willing to cough up about 2500 or so for a transmission repair. lets face it they claim to be experts within there field, so why can't they give you a fixed price for your transmission repair before they start the repair, or even give you a min and max price, they can, they just know from experience to take the max amount of money out of your pocket they have to play dumb, why if they have the recomended software (from hq) a few key strokes will give the consumer the least amount and most amount charged to any customer for any transmission type they have ever worked on. i have the same software on my computer made by the same company just for independent shops minus there baloney sales traks. my customers know to the penny what they will spend before i remove there transmission, if i underestimated then i eat it, my custmers save on an average 600 t0 1,000 dollars per transmission repair, perhaps that is why i have had to buy a roll back to yank the cars away from these greedy business people, can't see your post right now but i believe you had a pathfinder (re4ro1a) no move, = a fried gear train lack of lube to the planets, master kit and band with bushings = 200.00, torque convertor = 100.00, filter= 10.00, reman gear train max 300.00, at fluid =25.00, lets say 16 hours labor x 50.00 per hour = 800.00, oh yes 75.00 for an external trans cooler. solenoid pak = 100.00, 7.5% franchise fee = 120.75, grand total 1730.75 + sales tax is that close to what they ended up with????

Shelita~~~~~~~~Here what happenz~~~~The shop salezman work on commission~~everyone else is hourly~~~~~the salezman job is to get as much money no matter what.~~What happened to you is common. The reason they asked you for either ssn/dln is to be able to say it was authorized over the phone, and this was the identifying info you gave them.~~~~Itz a good arguement at this point, how would they have this personal info "unless" you gave it to them?~~~~~~~At this point they can say/charge anything~~~~~kuz u gave them the gun with the bullets. Now itz your word against them in court~~~~~~In court it all depends whoz the better actor or who the court believes. This is taught in the cottman salesman skool~~~~~The shop that used it like this just knowz how to use it to steal~~~~~~~~i bet the only thing rong with you pathfinder was stripped converter turbine spines~~~~if you have "big" tires this is a common failure~~The symptom~~~"It was working fine then i put it in gear and it didn't move anymore" This is usually the customer comment.~~~THE TRANZMN
