I have been the administrator of Spanish English Academy since it opened 12 years ago. When Barbara, the current owner, purchased the school almost 4 years ago, everything changed for the better! She is a breath of fresh air. She inspires not only her students, but all of her teachers and staff. She established a very high standard for excellence seen through every aspect of the school. I can only presume this review is written by a very unhappy person. This school and workplace is now a joy.

Hello everyone, as an employee of the Spanish English Academy for quite some time, I can assure the readers that the content in the above complaint is both untrue and frivolous. All of the Spanish English Academy's employees are certified to teach English and hold various degrees from esteemed universities across the United States. Each of our team members, and their unique skill sets, bring valuable knowledge to the English language learning process. In addition to being beyond qualified to teach ESL, we are also legal to work in Mexico and have all the permits and credentials required by the Mexican State. The Spanish English Academy prides itself on offering genuine, affordable and legitimate English courses for speakers of English as a second language.
Our director Baraba, is the kindest, most understanding and respectful person I know. She would never treat an employee disrespectfully or allow her business to be run in the manner described in the above complaint. Clearly, whomever decided to damage our reputation had malicious intent and a personal grudge for reasons completely unbeknownst to us here at SEA. In fact, to see that there was a negative review at all, let alone one so specific yet personal, was quite a shock to the staff.
That being said, the Spanish English Academy invites anyone who may have gotten the wrong impression of our institution to drop by in person to check the school out and meet the staff for yourself! If you are reading this from abroad, please feel free to visit our website or find us on Facebook in order to form an accurate opinion of the business. Thanks again for taking the time to read this rebuttal, and please don't allow one disgruntled person's personal opinion to ruin your impression of what is truly an amazing and successful enterprise.
Thank You

This school is a joke. The studetns are amazing, the office workers are amazing, and most the teachers are great. The problem is that teachers are working on tourist visas. Teachers are not even required to get a work visa. In addition to that, some of the teachers are not even certified to teach English!
This is completely reprehensible and shameful. It is bad for the students, the school, and the teachers who are not certified to teach. The school is run badly. The owner has no loyalty to anyone but herself. She is completely disorganized and doesn't work to make the school better. She is clueless when it comes to teaching let alone running a credible school. She talks badly about teachers that have left to anyone that will listen, and always complains about things she has no idea about nor should be sticking her nose into.
The school needs to have a owner that works to help teachers get certified and help them improve and be legally working in Mexico. She is happy with doing less than required, and this is saddening to the utmost degree. If you want to work here, be ready to get low pay, and have days where you feel like going somewhere else. The owner will sing your praises while you are in front of her, but talk badly about you to everyone else. Stay clear!

There's a new owner, and I think the school is being run very well. I've been a teacher at S.E.A for over a year, and I have zero complaints. I would reccomend S.E.A to all ESL teachers that don't mind working on a beautiful island four days a week.

I wanted to write an update about SEA, Spanish English Academy in Cozumel, Mexico. SEA has been under new ownership for one year. As a school, we are working diligently to provide excellent education with professionalism and pride. We are very proud of the strides we have made and, while the above post is very negative, this is no way representative of the current and future environment at SEA. I appreciate the opportunity to give you this update.
